Sylvia Evelyn “Eve” Jenkins

September 30, 1936 – September 5, 2024

Sylvia Evelyn “Eve” Jenkins died in Cody, Wyoming on September 5, 2024, at the age of 87.  Eve was born in Butler, MO, to Albert W. and Irene (Fuoss) Ciggel on September 30, 1936.   Eve met her husband, Fred P. Jenkins, in high school and they married in Adrian, MO.  Fred would not go to college without Eve by his side.  They joined the workforce and later worked their way through school and graduated together in 1963 from Baker University in Baldwin City, KS.

She enjoyed working as a 4-H home extension economist in Hennepin County, Minnesota for seven years.  Several years after they had their son, Vaughn, they returned to Missouri.  Together Fred and Eve worked for nearly 45 years for the United Methodist Church in Mound, Minnesota and El Dorado Springs, MO, running church camps for both conferences.   Eve was exceedingly active in her communities.  She was a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW), GFWC Progress Club, PEO, and docent at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.  She served on the Boards of Cody Country Art League, Cody Community Concerts Association, Montana China Painting Association and Cody United Methodist Church.   She held many positions with the United Methodist Church including as a conference employee in the Kansas and then the Western Missouri Conferences; as a pre-school teacher for 10 years; camp dietician; and a choir member in El Dorado Springs and Cody.

Upon her husband’s death in 1996 she moved to Cody.  She loved her new home and community.  Eve was a very talented artist and especially loved China painting, arts and crafts of many kinds, oil painting, collecting M.I. Hummel figurines, cooking, playing the piano, and traveling making special memories on her trips to Germany, the Panama Canal, and elsewhere.   She remained involved with, and supportive of, her son and daughter-in-law through the years.

She will be remembered for being a wonderful mother and mother-in-law, having a home filled with love and acceptance, and always as someone who was available to visit about life’s most important issues over a cup of coffee or tea.  She was a marvelous mate for Fred over more than four decades.

Eve is preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, and her parents-in-law.  She is survived by her son Vaughn P. and Elizabeth “Liz” Jenkins of Cody.

A private family memorial will occur at a later date.  Internment will take place at Crescent Hill cemetery in Adrian, MO.
