Once again, Pixar hit me in the feels, and had my eyes watering on multiple occasions last weekend. Sad thing is, I had a hunch it might happen because the first one has a couple very emotional scenes.
My wife, daughter and I went to see the new Pixar film “Inside Out 2” last Saturday and we loved it. My mind does this, unfortunately, but it I don’t like comparing it to the original. I’d say it’s on par with the first Inside Out (2015) but is emotional for different reasons.
This new one is a must see, especially for families. Young children likely won’t fully understand it all, but they will enjoy it and laugh throughout the movie. But, don’t go in thinking it’s a movie for kids.
If you’ve seen the first one, you should already know it’s not a kids movie. As an adult, especially in the current crazy world we live in, this movie makes you reflect on your younger days while also look at your own life.
This sequel continues with Riley, but she’s now 13 years old – a year older than she was when Inside Out concluded. She’s enjoying life with her parents in San Francisco, and she’s back to being a hockey star. But, with her being in her teenage years now, she is going through new emotions.
Those new emotions, especially anxiety, become a huge part of the plot, which once again is about the emotions and feelings in Riley’s head. The new emotions are wonderful and make sense if you’ve been a teenager or been around any teenager.
I don’t want to spoil anything, especially the emotional parts of the story. However, I promise they’re great.
This movie crushed on its opening weekend, making $155 at the domestic box office. I’m so happy to see it do so well in the theaters, because most movies haven’t done well this year.
Go see this and I hope you enjoy it. After all, joy is the main emotion of these movies. Amy Poehler crushes it, but her growth and working with the other emotions makes the story so wonderful.
