PECULIAR —- A car caught fire today after a pursuit ended with the vehicle being grappled and a suspect in custody.
This afternoon Cass County Sheriff’s deputies grappled a vehicle near I-49 and St. Rt. J before the vehicle caught fire, no one was injured as a result of the fire.
Deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction in the area of I-49 and Hwy. 2 in Harrisonville. The driver failed to yield and the pursuit continued northbound before deputies deployed a grappler near St. Rt. J in Peculiar.
Shortly after the pursuit ended, the suspect’s vehicle caught fire. West Peculiar Fire Protection District assisted by putting the fire out.
The suspect is currently at Cass County Jail with charges from today’s incident pending.
