John R. West, age 77, passed away on November 30, 2024, in Harrisonville, MO. Born on December 13, 1946, in Springfield, MO, John was raised by his parents, Ruth Webb and Edward Wurdack. He spent his formative years in the Kansas City area, growing up alongside his three sisters Barbara Waisner, Bonnie McKean, and Deborah Haber.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his cherished wife, Linda West; his sister, Bonnie McKean; and his nephew, Sean McKean. He is survived by his loving children: sons David, Chad, and Michael, and daughter Amanda. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Tara, Jessica, Devin, LeaAnne, Gabrielle, Chris, Shane, McKenzie, Bellami, and little Johnny.
A proud veteran, John served as a Specialist Four in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. His dedication and bravery were recognized with the Army Medal of Commendation for Meritorious Service. He was also an expert marksman with the M-14 and M-16 rifles. John’s life was a testament to service and family, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. “We live in the land of the free because my father fought for me, and so did his father, and his father”
A memorial service to honor John’s life was held on Saturday, December 7th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1000 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville, MO 64701. Service at 2 p.m.
