Harrisonville High School has just been named as one of the 25 finalists for schools nationwide to receive a $25,000 prize through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program.

This competition celebrates high schools nationwide that compete for bringing pride to their community, school spirit, creativity and earning votes for their spirit week challenges.

“This is a great step forward for our students and our entire community,” said Bob Ray, activities director at Harrisonville Schools. “The support we’ve received shows how much Friday nights in Harrisonville mean, and the improvements ahead will make an even bigger impact for everyone who calls themselves a Wildcat.”

The school has already been awarded $5,000 for the “5K Friday’s” sweepstakes. The finalist’s prize could allow the school to expand the press box and to upgrade the sound system at Harrisonville Memorial Stadium.

Before the season started last month, the school’s scoreboard system completely failed due to a lightning strike, so a portion of the funds will help to repair or replace the scoreboard.

“We are grateful to T-Mobile for this recognition and for supporting our students and schools,” Harrisonville Superintendent Josh Chastain, “We also want to thank our Wildcat Family for rallying behind us and making this possible.”

On the Oct. 10 football game, T-Mobile will host a celebration with games, giveaways and free concessions for all attendees. The next stage of the competition will have the top 25 finalists compete for the grand prize of $1 million toward a football field upgrade, a consultation with a stadium experience expert, a weight room upgrade by Gronk Fitness and more. The voting for the grand prize will be open until Oct. 24, and the winner will be announced on Oct. 30.
