Garden City firefighters responded to a child drowning Saturday night in rural Henry County.
The Garden City Fire Protection District was dispatched to a call in the 1000 block of Northwest 1501 Road, according to a report, just before 8:30 p.m. for a juvenile drowning.
A spokesperson with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said a child just under the age of 2 years old had drowned in a pool and was transported to a hospital in Cass County. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The spokesperson said they are still investigating the incident, but after the interviews they’ve done, the incident will likely be ruled an accident. However, nothing is final yet.
According to Garden City Fire Chief Mark Lopez, additional resources were requested from Lifeflight Eagle Air ambulance at the time of the dispatch, but the victim was transported by an ambulance to a local hospital.
