Emotions ran high Friday throughout the Sherwood school community, as one of its former students was involved in a life-threatening accident.

Eli Ferrell, a senior at Butler who transferred from Sherwood during the summer, was hospitalized Friday morning and remains in serious condition.

According to a Facebook post, Ferrell was driving to a doctor visit when he suffered a sudden medical emergency, which doctors believe was a seizure brought on by a rapid and high fever. He lost consciousness and his truck left the road, struck an embankment and rolled several times.

Ferrell was an all-state wrestler at Sherwood, where he was also the starting running back last year for the Marksman football team. Before and after Friday night’s game at Adrian, Sherwood and the Blackhawks held combined team prayers for Ferrell. Sherwood also wore No. 6 stickers on their helmets.

Sherwood is scheduled to host Butler at 7 p.m. Friday.
