Explosives detonated after traffic stop near Archie

Early Wednesday morning, explosives were detonated in or near Archie following a traffic stop that resulted in one arrest.

Just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop on southbound I-49 at the Archie exit due to a lane violation. After a vehicle search, deputies sound several homemade explosives and narcotics.

The Lee’s Summit Bomb Squad was contacted and arrived on scene, where they detonated the explosives.

The suspect has been identified as 51-year-old Charles Cooper of Kansas City. He has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (D Felony) and Driving While Revoked/Suspended (D Misdemeanor).

Cooper’s bond is set at $10,000 cash only. He’s currently being housed at the Cass County Jail.
