A Drexel firefighter was killed and his wife was injured Tuesday when a vehicle was driven into a building in Louisburg, Kansas.
Drexel firefighter Anthony Juarez was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon. He was pronounced dead about 9 p.m. surrounded by his family.
His wife, Devin, was treated at OPRMC and by all accounts will recover from her injuries, according to a release by the Drexel Fire Department.
Juarez spent the last nine years honorably serving as a dedicated member of the Drexel Fire Department. Juarez was not only beloved by his fire department teammates, but he was also a beloved member of the Drexel community. He and his band, “68 Overpass,” were frequent performers at the annual Pumpkin Fest, as well as other local venues.
According to the release, the Louisburg Police Department, along with Louisburg Fire, EMS personnel, and the Miami County Sheriff's Office, responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven into a building in Louisburg.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a male subject driving a pickup truck westbound on 68 Highway had driven his truck through the building in question, striking two individuals in the process.
