January 21, 1932 – June 5, 2025
Don A. Sousley was born January 21, 1932, in Linn County, Missouri and de- parted this life on June 5, 2025, in Pleasant Hill, Mis- souri at the age of 93 years. Don was surrounded by the love of family at his home when he passed. Don was the final surviving child of the 13 children born to Lo- gan O. and Emma (Walls) Sousley.
When Don was very young, the Sousley family moved to Versailles, Missouri where he attended school. As a kid, Don would work as a farmhand to help
support the family due to losing his father at a very young age. Often, he would have to ride the train to and from different farms for this work. Don gave the money to his mother to help support her and his 12 siblings. Don left Versailles in 1949 and moved to Kansas City for more employment opportu- nities and maintained a vig- orous work ethic his entire life.
Don worked full time as a truck driver, and a member of Teamsters Local #955, for most of his adult life. Don also routinely worked a second job in the afternoons and evenings. He retired from truck driving in 1984. After this retirement, Don worked full-time for several years with his wife, Shirley, at the store they owned and operated, G & M
Grocery.
An active out-
doorsman, Don was pas- sionate about bird hunting and gardening, often brag- ging on his tomato plants to other gardeners and sharing the superb tomatoes with
friends. Don loved baseball and was an avid Kansas City Royals fan, watching every game he could find on TV and listening to the others on the radio. Also, a big fan of basketball, Don was of- ten seen at the Pleasant Hill Roosters and Chicks bas- ketball games. Don greatly enjoyed watching his grand- children, great-grandchil- dren, other family members, and anyone else he knew play sports.
Don loved living in the Wingate Community where his neighbors became like family to him. He was a member of the Kingsville Baptist Church where he was very fond of his church family. Don will be remem- bered as someone who was always laughing, having fun
and enjoying life.
Don was preceded
in death by his wife, Shir- ley A. Sousley; son, Donald Eugene “Donnie” Sousley; grandson, Donnie Jeffery Sousley; and six brothers and six sisters. He is sur- vived by two daughters, Becky Clutter and husband
