Bomb squads called to Strasburg

STRASBURG — Bomb squads from Lee’s Summit and Independence were called in late this morning.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 400 block of Mill Street where pyrotechnics were found at the home of a “retired” chemist who had passed away.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, family members were cleaning out the house when they found the pyrotechnics.

As far as what’s been found: old nitrate (commonly used in fireworks) and Class B fireworks.

The Pleasant Hill Fire Department was the first agency on the scene.

Roads were blocked off and people nearby were evacuated.
