Archie again going for win in Friday Night Lights competition

The Archie School District will be once again taking part in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition for the chance to win the $1 million home field upgrade.

Archie participated in the competition last year alongside the Harrisonville School District for the chance to win from $5,000 to $1 million. The competition is aimed to help small-town schools receive new equipment for their football programs.

“We got some money from them last year that we used on our locker rooms,” Matt McIntire, the school’s athletics director said. “Obviously we always have a use for more money and more upgrades and things that can improve our sports facilities.”

The competition is scored by the number of likes, shares and comments the school gets on social media. Each post with the hashtags “#Entry” and “#FN5GL” will have its interactions added to the tally.

Districts nationwide can submit their applications until Sept. 18 with the chance of a weekly prize. There will be 40 division finalists announced on Oct. 8 winning $25,000 and a T-Mobile home game celebration.

The top four division champs will be announced Oct. 29 and the grand prize winner will be announced Nov. 12.
