Sharon was born to Bob and Claudine (Morrow) Arnold in Kansas City on March 29, 1950. She graduated from Sherwood High School in 1968. She married Virgil Poisal on June 29, 1969, at the Daugherty United Methodist Church in Daugherty.
Sharon was an embodiment of the two greatest commands given to us in the book of Matthew 22:36-37. “…Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and “…Love your neighbor as yourself.” She held several roles throughout her life: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and teacher, and in all of those roles, she excelled in loving everyone around her. Especially those who were most difficult to love. Her love knew no bounds.
She was a long time member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church. She loved her church and supported it every way she could. After she became a resident at Golden Years, she watched the church services on her phone and made calls to check on the elderly. She loved Jesus and desperately wanted others to know Him, too.
She lived the majority of her life on her family’s Century Farm. She loved living on the farm and being a farmer’s wife. In 1980, Sharon and Virgil purchased a small farm adjacent to the family land and began a joint farming operation with Bob and Claudine. They took over the full operation after the passing of her parents which they maintained until they were no longer physically able. After her health declined, her greatest enjoyment came in watching her children and grandchildren continue the family legacy and in attending their many sporting events and activities.
Sharon taught briefly in the Archie School District but spent the majority of her career in the Harrisonville School District. She took great joy in being a teacher and especially the time she spent teaching Kindergarten. She truly loved each and every one of her students and their families. Sharon’s family was continually amazed by how many high school students would stop to give her a hug while she attended her grandchildren’s activities because she was their beloved kindergarten teacher. She not only remembered each one but also the names of their siblings. Over the years, she never tired of hearing about their lives.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Kathy Ruff. She leaves behind her husband, Virgil; children: Bob and Kris Poisal and Todd and Betsy Kitchen; grandchildren: Devon Mansfield, Charlie and Jessica Puhr, Luke and Kylee Filer, Kurt Poisal and Torey Alexander, Jacob Poisal and Elaina Locke, Krede Kitchen, and Keastin Kitchen; great-grandchild, Dawson Puhr; sister, Cheryl Huffman; niece, Shereen Agbebaku and husband, A.J., and children; brothers and sisters-in-law: Melvin and Shirley Poisal, Alvin and Connie Poisal, Janice Brindle, and Holly Morris; along with several additional nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
