Police have caught the suspect, an Indiana man, in the area of Jefferson Parkway after nearly five hours of searching. The suspect was described as a man wearing a gray tank top, black shorts and has a shaved or bald head with multiple tattoos on his arms.
The manhunt began around 3:25 p.m. when police were called after a gun was stolen from a vehicle parked at CVS Pharmacy. The vehicle’s window was broken.
After receiving a description of the vehicle, a black truck, which was later identified as having been stolen in Warsaw, and the above physical description, an officer in the area located the stolen vehicle and initiated the pursuit.
The suspect exited the black truck running into the woods on the west side of 291 Highway.
A perimeter was set up between 291 Highway on the west with South Jefferson Parkway on the east, Waters Road on the north, and Commercial Street and Locust Street on the south.
A female suspect, believed to be the suspect’s wife or girlfriend, was detained at that time.
Dogs, drones, and helicopters were all used during the pursuits and dozens of law enforcement officers were involved in the search, including the sheriff’s office, highway patrol and a K-9 Unit from Kansas City.
The suspect was initially believed to be armed after having stolen a gun, but it was later recovered from the ground by police.
