Glen R. Clark Jr.
Oct. 17, 1941 – April 26, 2020
Glen Robert Clark, Jr., Harrisonville, was born Oct. 17, 1941, in Osgood, the
son of Glen Robert, Sr., and Margaret Lorene (McLaughlin) Clark.
He died April 26 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 9 days.
April 9, 1966, Glen married Sharon Baker in Kansas City.
Glen was employed at Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) as a lineman and retired from there in 1996 after 33 years of service. It was a career he loved and spoke so highly of that he inspired four family members from the next two generations to follow in his footsteps.
While working at KCP&L, he and Sharon opened up Clark’s Greenhouse where they sold countless plants for nearly 25 years.
Glen and Sharon enjoyed traveling and after retirement they spent many winters in Arizona, Texas and Florida. They also enjoyed taking their grandchildren on yearly trips. Camping was a favorite and for several years they were members of the Kansas City Airstream Club.
He spent several years volunteering with Missouri Conservation where he
shared his love for the outdoors with young children teaching them to fish.
Glen also enjoyed gardening, hunting, playing cards and eating lunch with his friends at the community center.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Clark, Oct. 1, 2018.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Todd Proch, Harrisonville, Kim and Sterling Haynes, Garden City, and Glenda and Brett Barber, Harrisonville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, Noel Gene and Yvonne Clark, Excelsior Springs; other relatives and many friends.
A private family graveside service was at the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City with military honors.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Harrisonville Senior Citizen’s Center.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Martha L. Craig
June 6, 1944 – April 27, 2020
Martha Lou Craig, 75, Archie, died April 27 at Research Medical Center in
Kansas City.
Services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Dennis D. Poindexter
April 15, 1956 – April 25, 2020
Dennis Poindexter, 64, Archie, died April 25 at his home in Archie. Graveside services were May 2 at the Sharon Cemetery, Drexel.
Dennis Dale Poindexter was born April 15, 1956, in Harrisonville, the son of Philip and Mary Jo Hartman Poindexter.
He attended Miami School and graduated in 1974. Dennis was a life-long farmer. He enjoyed his cattle, but found the greatest happiness on the back of a horse. He was a proud, longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA).
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Mary Jo Poindexter.
He is survived by a brother, Darrel Poindexter and wife, Marian, Drexel;
three sons, Richard Poindexter and wife, Tina, Harrisonville, David Poindexter and wife, Megan, Drexel, and Matthew Poindexter and wife, Cari, Archie; five grandchildren, Cody, Christopher, Emily, Haley and Hannah.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Services were under the direction of the Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel.
Nancy Yvonne (Ward) Sylvester
Aug. 16, 1955 – April 27, 2020
Nancy Yvonne (Ward) Sylvester, 64, died April 27 at her home in Freeman, in the arms of her loving husband and surrounded by family. She was called to her eternal resting place after a long and cruel battle with dementia.
According to Nancy’s wishes she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held when circumstances allow. Nancy was an active member in the
United Methodist Church of Peculiar where the family had attended since the 1990s until Nancy’s illness no longer permitted.
Nancy was born Aug. 16, 1955 in Bethany. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1973. She met her husband, Eric L. Sylvester, at CNA Insurance and they were married Sept. 14, 1975.
Nancy was a stay-at-home mom to all five of her children and enjoyed going to their sporting events and other activities. While her kids were in school, she was highly active in PTA and served on the school board. Nancy loved gardening and became a Master Gardener. She was an avid bowler and was in a bowling league for most of her adult life. Before her illness took hold, Nancy completed an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design at Johnson County Community College and practiced home realty in Harrisonville. Nancy was a very caring and compassionate woman. She always tried to live like she thought God would want.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Hugh A. Ward; her father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Thetis Sylvester; and her brother-in-law, Erin Sylvester.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Eric L. Sylvester; their children and grandchildren, Jacob Sylvester, Olathe, Kansas, daughters Annabelle and Sophia Sylvester; Timothy Sylvester, Raytown, Sarah (Sylvester) Williams, Jackson, Mississippi, husband Bryan and son Logan Williams; Rebecca (Sylvester) Cornett, Lee’s Summit, expecting Nancy’s ninth grandchild in August, husband Corey and children Austin and Aaliyah Cornett; Rachel (Sylvester) Rizzo, Lenexa, Kansas, husband Jon and daughters Shay, Kylie and Hayes Rizzo. She is also survived by her mother, Norma Ward, Grandview, her sister, three brothers, brothers-in-law and their families.
Arrangements were under the direction of Complete Cremation, Harrisonville.
