Free Community Health Screening at Cass County Public Library
Cass Regional Medical Center will provide free health screenings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. May 10, at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library, 400 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville.
Receive free blood pressure, blood oxygen and blood sugar screenings and obtain a free total lipid profile, which measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides.
For most accurate results, screening participants are asked to fast for at least 12 hours prior to the screening and take medications as usual (with water only). No appointments are necessary.

Town Hall meeting slated
Mayor Judy Bowman, Alderwoman Judith Reece and Alderman Dave Doerhoff invite area residents to join them for a Town Hall meeting at 9 a.m. May 11 in the HUB at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, 2600 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville.
Shawna Thompson-Walker, animal control officer at the Harrisonville Animal Shelter, will be the presenter.
Thompson-Walker will share some of the stories of rescued pets and will also be sharing information about the services offered at the shelter and the events that it sponsors every year.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to hear what’s happening in the city.
Refreshments will be provided and all Harrisonville residents are welcome to attend.

Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free Diabetes Support Group meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. May 16, in Conference Rooms 1, 2 and 3, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional, 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.
Monthly, Cass Regional’s Diabetes Education team presents topics on current trends in diabetes treatments, lifestyle modification options and topics of interest for those who have diabetes or who have loved ones diagnosed with diabetes.
The diabetes Support Group meetings are free to the public.

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library will have a houseplant swap from 10 to 11 a.m. May 18 at the library. Start now getting starts ready to swap.
- Bring as many as five starts.
- For each one you bring, take one home.
- Starts must be rooted.
- You can bring them in water or soil, but each start should be in individual containers.
- Houseplants only.

Take a tour of the square
In celebration of National Historic Preservation Month, the Love the Harrisonville Square organization will be hosting a historic walking tour led by David Atkinson at 10 a.m. May 18.
Those attending should plan to meet on the south side of the Cass County Courthouse.
There is no cost to join the tour, but donations to the non-profit are welcomed and appreciated.
Attendees can also have their photo taken with historical props for a small fee.

Scharlie Foundation golf tournament slated
The third annual Scharlie Foundation golf tournament will be held May 18 at the Shamrock Hills Golf Club, 3161 S. State Route 291, Lee’s Summit.
The tournament benefits the foundation which was established in honor of Scharlie Cantrell, who took her own life, and is an advocate for mental health and animal abuse.
Registration for the tournament is at 11 a.m. with tee time set for 1 p.m. Dinner will be provided after the tournament.
The entry fee for the four-man scramble is $65 per player or $260 for a team. Hole sponsorships are available for $50 and up.
Monetary donations, prizes and promotional gifts are also being sought.
