Cora Paige Graham

Cora Paige Graham, 19, Harrisonville, died Jan. 29 near Peculiar as the result of a car accident. A Celebration of Life service was held Feb. 2 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Cora was born Jan. 27, 2000, in Kansas City, a daughter of Josh and Amy (Baker) Graham. She was a lifelong Harrisonville resident and a 2018 graduate of Harrisonville High School. While in school, she was in the A+ program, was active in the high school band and was a member of the all-girls’ choir, Serenata. Cora earned her Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CAN) certificate from Cass Career Center and was currently working at Carnegie Rehabilitation Center in Belton.
She is survived by her parents, Josh and Amy Graham, Harrisonville; a brother, Logan Graham, Harrisonville; her grandparents, Bill and Debra Thomson, Archie, Linda and Paul Sullivan, Overland Park, Kansas, Luther Baker, Overland Park, Kansas, and Jay and Becky Graham, Flagstaff, Arizona; and her great-grandmother, Dorothy Hammond, Overland Park, Kansas.
Cora was loved by all and changed the lives of everyone she met.

Clora “Fae” Jones
July 19, 1949 – Jan. 25, 2019
Clora “Fae” Jones 69, Harrisonville, died Jan. 25 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City. A memorial service was held Jan. 30 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Fae was born July 19, 1949, in Stella, the daughter of Thurman and Ethel (Shockley) Goodnight. She was a lifelong Cass County resident.
Fae married Rick B. Jones, Sr., in 1965. Fae worked for GEAR for Sports, (formerly Winning Ways, Inc.), in Lenexa, Kansas, as a data entry processor for 24 years before retiring in 2013.
She was an avid Coca-Cola memorabilia collector. She enjoyed painting ceramics, reading and playing cards and board games. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a good mother with good values.
Fae was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rick B. Jones, Jr.; three brothers; two sisters; and a great-granddaughter.
She is survived by three sons, Frank L. Jones, Creighton, William “Bill” D. Jones, Archie, and Clayton S. Jones and wife, Becky, Harrisonville; three brothers, Calvin Goodnight, Granby, Clarence Goodnight, Manford, Oklahoma, and Gary Goodnight, Shreveport, Louisiana; three sisters, Margie McLaughlin, Joplin, Lorraine McGill, Temple, Texas, and Zelda Glasgow, Independence, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Karen Sue (Evans) Mayfield
April 3, 1955 – Jan. 24, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Sue (Evans) Mayfield announces her death Jan. 24. She was 63 years old.
Karen was the first-born child of James Norman Evans and Nida Jane (Peppers) Evans. Karen graduated from Archie High School in May 1973. She married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Mayfield, Dec. 7, 1996.
Karen was preceded in death by her father (1978); her mother (1995); and her husband (2017).
Karen had been a member of the Austin Baptist Church since she was 17. She loved our Lord and he blessed her all of her life.
The occupations that Karen was part of included working as a Halfway Truck Stop cashier, a florist at Lande Flowers in Grandview (1980-1985), and restaurant owner on the square in Harrisonville, but her most rewarding occupation was her in-home daycare from 1994 to 2016. She loved and enjoyed all of her children and loved watching them grow into such wonderful young adults. She was so proud of them.
Karen will be remembered and missed by her sister, Nancy Kay Evans, and her brother, Jim Evans and wife, Toni. She will also be missed by all of the children she watched and their families. Karen had many friends in all aspects of her life and she will be missed by all of them.
Funeral services were Feb. 2 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Beverly Ann Maynard
June 12, 1931 – Jan. 28, 2019
Beverly Ann Maynard, 87, Harrisonville, died Jan. 28 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. No services are scheduled at this time.
Beverly was born June 12, 1931, in St. Joseph, the daughter of Jack and Violet (See) Brown. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City and had lived in Harrisonville for the past 12 years. She had worked in housekeeping for the Radisson Muehlebach Hotel in downtown Kansas City.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and by a daughter, Patricia Gilbert.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Gilbert, Virginia, Patrick Gilbert, Belton, and Steve Gilbert, Illinois; three daughters, Connie Herrington, Independence, Mary Murphy, California, and Kathy Myers, Cleveland; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Lorenzo “Mac” Dow McCoy
June 26, 1920 – Jan. 28, 2019
Lorenzo “Mac” Dow McCoy, 88, Harrisonville, died Jan. 28 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City. A memorial service was held Feb. 4 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Mac was born June 26, 1930, in Humansville, the son of Joe and Ola Nancy (Simmons) McCoy. He grew up in Nelson and joined the Army in 1947. He served more than 20 years and had served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Army in 1969 as a Master Sergeant E-8.
Mac married Velma Louise Fishback June 14, 1958, at the home of Velma’s parents in Fristoe. They lived in Harrisonville since 1971. They owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Restaurant for eight years and the Halfway Truck Stop for two years. Mac worked for the Trans Alaska Pipeline as camp and food manager for one year and as cafeteria manager at Western Electric for seven years. He also drove the OATS bus for 14 years.
Mac was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville and the Wednesday morning Coffee Club at church. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed farming, meeting his coffee buddies, Western movies and spending time with his family. Mac was a wonderful “Papaw” to his grandchildren and loved them all dearly. He loved spending time with them and especially taking them all fishing.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother, Joseph Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Velma, of the home; three daughters, Sonya Wendler (Mark), Ava, Shelley Ederer (Steve), Pleasant Hill, and Dowlene Wise (Mark), Cleveland; two brothers, Roy McCoy (Kay), Silver Springs, Maryland, and Sidney McCoy (Sandra), Kansas City; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Harold Eugene Murphy

Harold Eugene Murphy, Archie, died Dec. 28, 2018.
Harold is survived by his wife, Cleda, of the home; his son, Galen, and his wife Stephanie; his three grandchildren, Clayton, Charles and Megan; his four great-grandchildren, Callysta, Cylar, Cameryn and Grayson; his brothers, Raymond and Jim; and many others he considered close family.
A celebration of life service was held Jan. 26 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Ruby Faye Oberweather

Ruby Faye Oberweather, 98, of Lee’s Summit, died Jan. 25 at Wilshire at Lakewood, Lee’s Summit.
Ruby is survived by her son, Harvey Oberweather, and his wife, Sandy, Harrisonville; a daughter, Linda Rodenberg and her husband, Terry; four grandchildren, Jason Oberweather, Julie Smith, Sheena Marx and Whitney McCracken; four great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lana Smith, Raegen and Makinley Oberweather; and other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were Jan. 30 at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City.

Dr. Robert L. Wheeler
March 12, 1929 – Jan. 20, 2019
Dr. Robert L. Wheeler, 89, died Jan. 20 at Waveny Park House, Overland Park, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the ASPCA. Services are pending at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Dr. Wheeler was born March 12, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Virgil Richard and Monica Awilda (Hoback) Wheeler. He grew up in Webb City and was a 1947 graduate of Webb City High School. He received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Pittsburg State Teacher’s College, Pittsburg, Kansas, and received his MD from the University of Missouri Medical School in Columbia in 1961. He served his internship at General Hospital in Kansas City, and joined Dr. Ed Jones’s practice in Harrisonville in 1962. He was a U.S. Korean War Navy veteran.
He married Linda Lee Heinrich June 9, 1961, in Booneville. They moved to Harrisonville in 1962. He worked at Harrisonville Medical Clinic for 51 years before retiring in 2013, after which he and Linda moved to Overland Park, Kansas, in 2016.
Dr. Wheeler was a lifetime member of the American Medical Association, the Missouri State Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Southern Medical Association and had received the Cass Medical Center Foundation Award.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Monica Wheeler, and two brothers, Frederick and Richard Wheeler.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, Overland Park; three daughters, Melissa Wheeler, Prairie Village, Kansas, Rachel Wheeler, St. George, Utah, and Eden Wheeler and her husband, Christopher Walker, Lee’s Summit; a son, Coleman H. Wheeler and his wife, Sarah, Leawood, Kansas; six grandchildren, Tevan R. Balian, Aren J. Balian, Stefan W. Balian, Helton W. Walker, Miles Q. Wheeler and Alexandria L. Wheeler; and many nieces and nephews.

Grace Winnifred Wolf

Grace Winnifred Wolf, 85, Harrisonville, died Jan. 25 at Golden Years Care Center, Harrisonville.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with burial in Garden City Cemetery, Garden City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Grace was born Nov. 19, 1933, in Hiattville, Kansas, a daughter of Harry Glenn and Izola Leona (Houdeshell) Hayden. She had lived in Cass County most of her life. Grace was married to James Richard Wolf on July 12, 1959.
She had worked as the bookkeeper and secretary for the family business, Wolf & Sons Garage Door Co. Grace was a strong Christian woman and member of the Church On The Rock in Harrisonville.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Feb. 12, 1997; six sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by two sons, James H. (Deann) Wolf, and Glenn (Clara) Wolf, both of Harrisonville; two daughters, Gaye (Richard) Spurlock, Naperville, Illinois, and Cindy (Tom) Hatton, Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Glenn (Connie) Hayden, Derby, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
