Loyd “Sonny” Raymond Wiseman, 94, Harrisonville, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 surrounded by his family. Masonic Services will be held 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with funeral services immediately following. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will be in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar.

Sonny was born January 24, 1929 in Conrad, Iowa, a son of Floyd E. and Hilda “Sarah” Irene (Ray) Wiseman. The family lived in Sheldon and Lamar before moving to Kansas City in 1938. Sonny lived in the Northeast area of Kansas City most of his early days, and he attended East High School.
Sonny served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in the European Theatre of Operations for 30 months. After his discharge on December 3, 1948, he became a member of the Army Reserve. He was recalled when the Korean War started, but enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed at Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, Texas. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant, August 1953.
Sonny was united in marriage to Toni Mansfield, July 4, 1970 in Kansas City. He was employed by Butler Manufacturing Co. for 17 years in the shipping department, and then was employed by ABF Freight System as a truck driver for 25 years. After his retirement in January, 1993, they moved to Peculiar.
Sonny became a member of Rockhill Masonic Lodge # 663 in 1976. After Rockhill Lodge merged with Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #446, Sonny became a lifetime member. He joined Cass Masonic Lodge #147 in Harrisonville in 2018. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Ararat Shrine in Kansas City since 1976. He became a member of the Ararat Provost Club, later serving as President in 1993, and was President of the Jackson County Shrine Club in 1990. He was a lifetime member of the Warsaw Shrine Club, a longtime member of Cass County Shrine Club, and was a Potentate’s Aide for Potentate Wes Cook in 1992. He was a lifetime member of VFW # 4409, Harrisonville, a member of DAV Chapter # 2, Kansas City, and Zach Wheat American Legion Post # 624, Sunrise Beach.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Loyd and Minnie Ray; his paternal grandparents, George and Lucy Wiseman; his sisters: Bettie Oliver and Ruth Skoff; his sister-in-law, Marion Wiseman; first wife, Gertrude “Bonnie” Welton Wiseman; grandson, Zach Wiseman; step-daughter, Rhonda Verdic; step-granddaughter, Marisa Sain; and step-grandson, Matthew Carroll.
Sonny is survived by the love of his life, his best friend, and confidant of 53 years, Toni Wiseman; his brother, Dean Wiseman; his brother-in-law, Robert Mansfield; his children: Ronald Wiseman, Donald (Joanne) Wiseman, Sandra Wiseman (Bill White), Angi (Gary) Hiland, Pat Wiseman; his step-children: Christine Sain and Brett Carroll; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and special nephews: Don (Anne) Jamerson, Lee (Julie) Pogue, and David (Teresa) Kemp and their families; as well as, many other nieces and nephews.
Sonny and Toni have this bond between them: Loved you yesterday love you still always have, and always will.
