Harrisonville Police Officer Scott Ramsey was hospitalized last night after being assaulted at the Harrisonville High School prom.
According to Lt. Darin Chance, the spokesman for the HPD, a guest at the prom assaulted Ramsey, who is the school resource officer.
According to Chance, the guest was approached by Ramsey, although it is unclear why. The guest ignored Ramsey’s instructions and struck the officer multiple times and knocked him to the ground. Another officer was in the area and was called to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m.
According to a message sent to parents at the time of the event, an individual, who was attending the event but not a student at HHS, was on the dance floor attempting to wear a ski mask. He was told by the SRO on several occasions that he could not do that. The student “became angry and attacked the SRO who was hit and knocked to the ground.”
The statement added several adults intervened and got the situation under control. The prom continued, but students were prohibited from leaving until the ambulance had left the scene.
Ramsey was taken to the Cass Regional Medical Center and kept overnight. His condition is not considered life threatening, according to Chance.
The suspect is a minor and no further information is available at this time.
