Three Cats headed to Columbia

The Harrisonville boys’ wrestling team traveled to Seneca Friday to compete in the Class 2 District 3 Wrestling Tournament. At districts, the top four from each weight class will advance to the Class 2 State Championship Tournament starting today in Columbia. Three Wildcats qualified and will be making the trip to Columbia.

Senior Carson Miller won first place in the 220-weight class with an 11-2 victory. Miller qualified for state a season ago and finished in fourth place in the same weight class. Miller improves his record to 42-4 on the season.

Sophomore Chris Sullivan will be heading back to state for the second-consecutive year after taking third place at the district tournament in the 120-weight class. In 2021, Sullivan finished fifth at state in the 113-weight class. Sullivan owns a season record of 32-6.

Rounding out the state qualifiers is senior Nick Ripperger. Ripperger took second place in the 132-weight class after losing 19-7 in the championship round. Ripperger will be making his first appearance at state and owns a seasonal record of 31-13.

Overall, Harrisonville finished in fifth place as a team with 88.5 points. Harrisonville is ranked the No. 16 team in all of class two.

State championship festivities start today with competitors weighing in at 7 a.m. The first round for Class 2 will begin at 9 a.m. Medaling matches are scheduled to take place Saturday in Columbia.

Joining the three boys will be five Lady Cats who qualified for the state meet two weeks ago at Ray-Pec: Chloe Herrick, Melaina Beachner, Katie Fitzgerald, Iasiah Turrentine and Allison Dye.
