Marjorie Lee Elliott
Feb. 3, 1934 – Nov. 6, 2021

Marjorie Lee Elliott, formerly of Harrisonville, Peculiar and Belton, died Nov. 6 surrounded by loved ones. She born Feb. 3, 1934, to Ward Hosler and Helen Whitten -Hosler in Hale. She was born into a family of seven siblings. She married Leo Robert Elliott on Dec. 5, 1949, in Louisburg, Kansas, and had eight children.

She was a loving mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and great-grandmother to all those around her. She was a kind, gentle soul who made all those around her smile. She would give someone the clothes off her back as long as it kept them warm. She would let anyone come and sit for hours if they needed. She was a grandmother to all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Ethel Hanavan, Betty Louise Hosler, and Helen Janice Freeman, her brothers Robert Hosler and Kenneth Hosler, her daughters Cindy Mayden and Lori Rearden, her sons Ronald Elliott and Jerry Elliott, and her granddaughter Hollie Rearden.

She left behind her brother, Jerry Hosler; her daughters, Brenda Bell, Debbie Miller and Teresa Gebhardt; her son, Steven Elliott; and an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Naomi L. Hestand
Nov. 26, 1944 – Nov. 9, 2021

Naomi Lee Hestand, 76, Peculiar, died Nov. 9 at Crown Care Health Center, Harrisonville. Naomi was born Nov. 26, 1944, in Sheldon, the daughter of Leo Calvin and Viola Mae (Rice) Zollman.

She was a 1962 graduate of Belton High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Longview Community College.

She married David Lee Hestand on Oct. 20, 1962.

Naomi was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raymore. She had worked as an HR director for Hawthorn Bank before retiring. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, on April 2, 2020; a brother, Ray Zollman; and a sister, Leona Lowe.

She is survived by two sons, David L. “Butch” Hestand, Jr., and Donnie C. Hestand and Dianna Mullins; a daughter, Jeanne Burgin and T.J.; a sister, Bonnie Henderson; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A visitation was Nov. 15 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with graveside services following at Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Larry Hetherington
Aug. 1, 1952 – Nov. 8, 2021

Larry Hetherington, 69, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children at their home in Harrisonville. Larry was a survivor of small cell lung cancer, but lost his long-fought battle against COPD Nov. 8. Larry was born Aug. 1, 1952, in Clinton, the son of Ralph and Dorothy Hetherington.

He was the older brother of Mary Sue Hetherington.

He graduated from RayPec High School in 1970. On Aug. 17, 1973, Larry married his soulmate, Linda Kay Goss. They remained happily married for 48 years and their union was blessed with three strong willed, but bighearted boys.

Larry worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation where he retired after 32 years of service.

Larry was preceded in death by his dad, Ralph; mom, Dorothy; and sister, Mary.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; sons, Larry “Dale,” Jr., and wife Nichole, Warsaw, Brian and wife Charla, Harrisonville, and Clint and wife Jennifer, Peculiar; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Taylor, Austin and wife Harli, Colter, Ashley and Anne Marie; step-grandchildren, Danielle and husband James, Joseph and Kristofer; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Larry enjoyed watching his boys grow up. He spent many hours at the ballparks watching the boys play baseball. On the weekends they would pack up and head to the lake. There they would enjoy camping, fishing and skiing.

Besides his family time, Larry enjoyed giving back to the youth of the community. He served as a board member for the youth building, he was a Cub Master for Pack 3 and a Scoutmaster for Troop 240.

Scouting was such a big part of Larry’s life as he was an active member for more than 35 years.

In those years, he would go to summer camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation where he became a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say as a Hard-way Warrior. His passion for scouting has continued through his sons and grandchildren.

Larry has touched the lives of so many people, he was an honest and hardworking man and his absence will deeply be felt by all.

Funeral services were Nov. 13 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Cremation with inurnment in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

George R. Luzadder
Sept. 16, 1929 – Nov. 4, 2021

George Reese Luzadder, 92, Harrisonville, died Nov. 4 at his home. George was born Sept. 16, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Frank and Margaret (Rutsch) Luzadder.

He married Gloria Flasch, July 16, 1955, in West Bend, Wisconsin.

They made their home in the Chicago area until they moved to Harrisonville in 1994.

George worked as a supervisor for U.S. Cold Storage in Chicago until his retirement in 1992. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1951 to 1955. George was a member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shirley; and a son, Paul.

George is survived by his wife, Gloria Luzadder, Harrisonville; two sons, John Luzadder, Streamwood, Illinois, and Daniel Luzadder, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Nov. 9 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Joseph E. Miller
April 26, 1925 – Nov. 4, 2021

Joseph Edward Miller, 96, Harrisonville, died Nov. 4 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Joe was born April 26, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of Janie Faye Ruth Cavin and James Joseph Edward Miller.

He served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946 after reaching the rank of Corporal.

Joe married Corinne “Corky” Stewart in Springfield on Aug. 29, 1947, and celebrated 69 years of wonderful marriage.

He graduated in May 1950 from the Missouri School of Mines(now Missouri University of Science and Technology) in Rolla with a degree in electrical engineering.

After graduation, he was employed by Bendix Aviation Corporation in Kansas City until he retired in 1992. He recently moved to Edmond to be closer to family He led an active life enjoying town team basketball, fast-pitch softball, golf, bowling, cards, fishing, dancing, coaching and video poker.

Joe was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan while watching the games from his favorite La-Z-Boy chair. He was an enthusiastic cheerleader for his sons, Stan and Ron. You could always find him at their college and high school football and basketball games and summer baseball games.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Janie Faye Ruth (Cavin) and James Joseph Edward Miller; his brother, Jim Miller; his son, Stan Miller; and his wife, Corky Miller.

Joe is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Margaret Miller, Edmond; sister, Peggy Lane, Houston, Texas; special family friend, Debbie Miller, Belton; granddaughters, Erica Miller, Stacia and Jeff Shipman, Angela and Jason O’Daniel and Tessa Miller; great-grandchildren Tucker, Tess and Tatum O’Daniel, Maren Miller, Max, Maisie and Mollie Shipman.

A visitation is scheduled for 5 p.m. and service at 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO.

Goldie M. Appleberry
March 15, 1931 – Nov. 9, 2021

Goldie Marie Appleberry, 90, Butler, died Nov. 9, 2021 at Medicalodge of Butler. She was born March 15, 1931, the daughter of John William and Winnie Elizabeth Burgess Rogers in Bristow, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diane Bridges; four brothers, Dale, Don, John and Floyd; and a sister, Pauline.

Goldie is survived by five sons, Loren Appleberry and wife Debby, Butler, Ricky Appleberry, Denver, Colorado, Michael Appleberry and wife Tami, Hermitage, Jimmy Appleberry, Houston, Texas, and Gary Appleberry, Boonville; two daughters, Lewana Bolton and husband Bill, Butler, and Lisa Sanders and husband Robert, Nemo; a sister, Betty Brown, Lebanon; a son-in-law, Rodney Bridges, Adrian; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Nov. 12 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler.

Lori A. Jones
July 2, 1966 – Nov. 10, 2021

Lori Ann Walker Jones, 55, Butler, died Nov. 10 at her home in Butler. She was born July 2, 1966, the daughter of Carl and Marvel Mae (Bassett) Walker in Butler.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Walker.

Lori is survived by a son, Jerrod Allen Itzen, Harrisonville; a daughter, Krista Myers, El Dorado Springs; her mother, Marvel Walker, California; a brother, Don Walker, California; two grandchildren, Rylan Alexander Walker Itzen, Butler, and Izabella Mae Myers, Monegaw Springs.

A memorial visitation was Nov. 15 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.

Robert D. Lawrence
Aug. 28, 1963 – Oct. 31, 2021

Robert Dewy “Rob” Lawrence, 58, Butler, died Oct. 31 at his home. Rob was born on Aug. 28, 1963, in Adrian, the son of Roger Lawrence and Sharon Doody.

He was a Marine veteran. He climbed Mount Fuji on his 21ST birthday, he enjoyed playing harmonica, fixing and painting houses, spending time with his family and friends, rock climbing, body surfing and spending time with nature.

Rob was preceded in death by his brother, Daryl Lawrence; and his beloved dog, Mina.

Survivors include his daughter Bri Lawrence; brother, Kent Lawrence; mother Sharon Lawrence; and father, Roger Lawrence.

Cremation, a celebration of life service was Nov. 13 at his home in Butler.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler.

Ross L. Wainscott
May 31, 1936 – Oct. 28, 2021

Ross Lee Wainscott, 85, Ballard, died Oct. 28 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City. He was born May 31, 1936, the son of Arthur Boone “Bud” and Ruth Ann Tompkins Wainscott in Ballard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Kathryn Lee Wainscott; brothers, James “J.B.” and wife June, John “Les,” Robert Henry, Larry and Ronnie; sisters, Dorene Cramer and husband, Lynne, and Norma Wainscott; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ruby and Floyd Johnson, Lina Lou and Virgil Allen, Marjorie andJoe Craig, Bob and Jessie Paxton, Bobbie Joe Carroll and Dora Carroll.

Ross is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda K. Wainscott, of the home; two sons, Chuck Wainscott and wife, Susan, Raymore, and Paul Wainscott and wife, Cindy, Butler; two daughters, Teresa Badger, Pleasant Hill, and Lea Ann Shulse and friend, Mel Schroeder, East Lynne; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosellen Wainscott, Rose Harris and Erma Wainscott, all of Butler, Charles and Louise Carroll, Harrisonville, and Thomas Carroll, Appleton City; 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces and their families.

Funeral services were Nov. 13 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.

Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Ballard. Contributions are suggested to Gideons or Walnut Grove Cemetery.
