Harrisonville man stabbed to death

Harrisonville police and the Kansas City Metro Squad are investigating the city’s first homicide since 2016.

Emory L. Spainhour, 61, Harrisonville, died at the hospital of stab wounds after being found in a parking lot at about 2 a.m. Monday.

Spainhour was found bleeding by a customer at Quik Trip at 1402 S. Highway 291. It is believed he drove himself to the store for assistance, but collapsed before making it inside.

Officers arrived on the scene and began the investigation. Later Monday morning, the Crime Investigation Unit from Kansas City along with deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were searching the area around the commuter parking lot on Rock Haven Road. Lt. Chris Osterberg of the Harrisonville Police Department said the site was being treated as a secondary crime scene.

Osterberg said no other information could be released and did not indicate if any suspects or motive have been identified.

Investigators from the Kansas City Crime Investigation Unit along with Cass County Sheriff’s deputies searched several vehicles in the commuter parking lot on Rock Have Road Monday morning, investigating the murder of a 61-year-old Harrisonville man, Emory L. Spainhour. He was found bleeding in the parking lot at Quik Trip and died later at the hospital.
