Delano L. Angel
Nov. 29, 1934 – July 1, 2021

Delano “Del” Lee Angel, 83, Harrisonville, died July 1 surrounded by love and family at the Crown Care Center, Harrisonville.

He is survived by two sons, Terry Angel and wife Karen, Oak Grove, and Mike Angel and wife Pat, Grandview; two daughters, Debbie Hendrix and husband Galen, Harrisonville, and Michelle Bausir and husband Sip, Richmond, Texas; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and friends.

Cremation. No services are scheduled at this time.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Charlotte O. Elliott
March 6, 1948 – June 27, 2021

Charlotte Orlene Elliott, 73, Harrisonville, died June 27 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City. Charlotte was born March 6, 1948, in McAlister, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Emmett and June Vera(Hackler) Parker.

She married Don Johnnie Elliott Aug. 23, 1963.

Charlotte had lived in Lee’s Summit before moving to Harrisonville in 1985.

She had worked at Walmart for 20 plus years and was currently an assistant manager at the Harrisonville store. Charlotte loved to cook.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, on Aug. 19, 2010; and two brothers, Eddie Parker and James Parker.

She is survived by a son, Johnnie Elliott, Harrisonville; two daughters, Ginger Freeman and her husband, David, Creighton, and Cindy Cook, Harrisonville; five grandchildren, Bill Cook, Racheal Freeman, Sidney Kuntz, Johnnie Elliott and Gage Brown; and three great-grandchildren, April Lawless, Allison Lawless and Bill Cook plus one on-the-way.

A memorial visitation was July 7 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Inurnment will be Aug. 23 in Parker Cemetery, Creighton.

Geraldine B. Langin
March 30, 1922 – June 28, 2021

Geraldine B. Langin, 99, Centralia, Illinois, died June 28, at the Golden Years Care Center, Harrisonville. Geraldine “Geri” was born March 30, 1922, in Dewitt, the daughter of Clarence Simmons and Gertrude Simmons Williams (nee Baker).

She married Dean Langin in Perryvillle on April 20, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Nov.14, 2009.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Simmons, and an infant great-grandchild, Aeris Loyd.

Geraldine is survived by three chil-dren, Linda and Charles Cox, Harrison ville, Richard and Peggy Langin, Savage, Minnesota, and Chet and Flossie Langin, Carbondale, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Christy and Matthew McKay, Richmond, Kentucky, Karen and Jeffery Shook, Peculiar, Greg and Peggy Langin, Fullerton, California, Brian Langin, Forest Lake, Minnesota, Janelle and Alan Grueneich, Savage, Minnesota, Serena Loyd, Mena, Arkansas, and Jennifer Langin, Carbondale, Illinois; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

As a young girl she walked down the aisle and gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the Christian Church in Fairfield, Illinois. She graduated high school in Chester, Illinois, in 1939 and married Dean Langin in 1942.

They were married for 67 years and had three children. Geri and Dean especially loved and cherished time spent with family in their years of traveling across the country.

In 2010, she was given an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women, Presbyterian Church USA, in recognition of her faithful service. She taught adult Sunday School and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years until she moved to Harrisonville.

She retired after 24 years as secretary to the superintendent at Centralia High School, was a member for more than 40 years and past president of Business and Professional Women (BPW).

Geri was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In addition to loving her family and her church, she was an avid Centralia Orphans and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

For many years she enjoyed swimming, knitting, playing bridge, sewing and puzzles. Geraldine was loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services for Geraldine Langin will be at 1 p.m. July 10 at the First Presbyterian Church, Centralia, with Matthew McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Centralia.

Mary P. Loomis
Nov. 29, 1934 – June 26, 2021

Mary Patricia Loomis, 86, Harrisonville, died June 26 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit. Mary was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Royal and Theresa (Pritchett) Kerr.

Mary had lived in Los Angeles, California, and Shawnee, Kansas, before moving to Harrisonville in 1988.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville. Mary worked as a secretary for the Cass County Road and Bridge Department for 20 years before retiring in 2008.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reggie Loomis, in 1979; a sister, Kathleen; and a son, Michael Surrell.

She is survived by a daughter, Pam Belk and her husband, Stan, Harrisonville; a grandson, Jason Schemm; and a great-granddaughter, Destini Schemm.

Memorial services were July 2 with Rosary at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville. Inurnment was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Lawrence Ponder
Jan. 31, 1936 – June 26, 2021

Lawrence “Leo” Ponder was born Jan. 31, 1936, in Iberia, and died June 26 at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center, Pleasant Hill at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 26 days.

He was the son of Leve Virgil and Lelia Marie (Connell) Ponder.

he Ponder family moved to Pleasant Hill in 1942 when Leo was a small child.

He spent the entire rest of his life in Pleasant Hill.

Leo worked for Land Roofing Company for many years. Later in life he worked at the Pleasant Hill Veneer Plant until his retirement.

On July 4, 1991, Leo married the love of his life, Norma Jean Bendt, in Pleasant Hill and they made their home here. Mrs. Ponder preceded Leo in death Feb. 13, 2008.

Leo enjoyed watching television, especially old westerns. He also enjoyed watching the wildlife that surrounded his home and a McDonald’s cheeseburger now and then.

In addition to his wife, Norma Jean Ponder, Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leve and Lelia Ponder; three brothers, Virgil J. Ponder, Kenneth Ponder and Carl Ponder; a sister, Flora Cusick; a brother-in-law, Don Cusick; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Ponder.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Brock, Cleveland; a grandson, Jon Kirby and wife, Kimberly, Cleveland; a granddaughter, Jessica Kirby, Harrisonville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ponder, Pleasant Hill; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Elijah and Grace Kirby; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded. The family of Lawrence “Leo” Ponder will host a celebration of life at a later date.

Etta M. Stackhouse
Sept. 21, 1946 – June 25, 2021

Etta Marie Stackhouse, Garden City, was born Sept. 21, 1946, in Garden Grove, California, the daughter of Frank and Martha Viola (Prater) Mackedanz. She died June 25 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by love and family at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 4 days.

On April 24, 1964, Etta married Howard Dale Stackhouse in Peculiar.

Etta was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dayton Community Church, Garden City, and treasurer of the Stepping Stone Garden Club, Warsaw.

Etta enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, her flowers and especially her lilies, wood crafts, sewing and quilting.

Besides her parents, Etta was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Sue Ammerman and a brother, Frank Mackedanz.

Etta is survived by her husband, Dale Stackhouse, of the home; two sons, Bill Stackhouse and Deborah, Holden, and Steve Stackhouse and Stephanie, Clinton, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Cynthia Ammerman, Daniel Ammerman, Sheri Stockdall, Jon Stackhouse, Dallas Stackhouse, Tasha Boshers and Mikaila Stackhouse; three great-grandchildren, Carson, Oliver and Liliana Stackhouse; a brother, Bill Mackedanz, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a sister, Barbara Aswegan, Bellingham, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

A celebration of life service was July 6 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Inurnment was in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Harrisonville Ministerial Alliance Shepherd’s Food Pantry.

Anne M. Wheeler
July 28, 1952 – June 25, 2021

Anne Marie Wheeler, Peculiar, was born July 28, 1952, in Kansas City, the daughter of Clem and Virginia (Lootens) Breier. She died June 25 at her home surrounded by love and family at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 28 days.

On April 25, 1981, Anne married Paul Alan Wheeler in Kansas City.

Anne was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Hogan High School and later received an associate’s degree from Longview Community College.

She was a federal employee with the United States Department of Agriculture from 1972 until her retirement in 2008.

Anne was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Anne is survived by her husband, Paul A. Wheeler, of the home; three sons, Matthew Wheeler and wife, Lisa, Bristol, Connecticut, David Wheeler and wife, Maggie, Lee’s Summit, and Jeffrey Wheeler and wife, Amy, Kansas City; four grandchildren, Lily, Jamison, Harrison and Willow; three brothers, Mike Breier, Kansas City, Joe Breier and Tom Breier both of Belton; a sister, Mary Stamper, Glendale, Arizona; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A celebration of life mass with Rosary was July 7 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville.

Inurnment will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone, at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Virginia M. Foster
Dec. 14, 1920 – June 30, 2021

Virginia Marie Foster, 100, Butler, died June 30 in rural Butler. She was born Dec. 14, 1920, the daughter of Everett and Laura Zahl Stokes in Kansas City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, in 2013; a brother; a sister; two grandsons; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Virginia is survived by three daughters, Barbara Ann Pierce and husband, Elvin, Milo, and Shirley Jean Trumbore and Judy Marie Grogman and husband, Gary, all of Butler; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were July 5 in the Hickman Cemetery, Clarksburg.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.

James P. Hess
Aug. 23, 1935 – June 26, 2021

James Phillip “Phil” Hess, 85, Butler, died June 26 at St. Luke’s Health Center, Kansas City. He was born Aug. 23, 1935, the son of James George and Mary Genevieve Ellis Hess in Iola, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Hess, in 2017; two brothers, Jerome and Charles; two sisters, Ann Ballenger and Julie Hess; and a granddaughter, Mariana Rechenberg.

Phil is survived by three daughters, Mary Hess, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sarah Gentry and husband, Brad, Lee’s Summit, and Elizabeth Rechenberg and husband, Paul, Chesterfield; two brothers, Robert Hess and wife, Susie, Lawrence, Kansas, and Bernard Hess and wife, Patsy, Humboldt, Kansas; a sister, Mary Brigham, New Braunfels, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Maria Enders and husband Jonathan, Adam Gentry and wife Shelby, Nathan Gentry, Emma Rechenberg, Kathryn Rechenberg, Thomas Rechenberg and Nicholas Rechenberg.

Mass of Christian burial was July 2 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Butler. Rosary was at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.

Rhoda R. McArthur
Sept. 15, 1938 – June 25, 2021

Rhoda Rebecca McArthur, 82, Butler, died June 25 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler. She was born Sept. 15, 1938, the daughter of Silas Joseph and Flora Nancy Vinzant Smith in Upton, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John and Jack.

Rhoda is survived by two daughters, Janet McArthur, Adrian, and Sheila Spencer and husband, Eric, Eureka Springs, Arkansas; two brothers, Si Smith and Henry Smith; a sister, Fanny Phillips, Joplin; and three grandsons, Tommy McArthur, Justin Reeves and John Melton.

Funeral services were July 2 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.

Burial was in Green Lawn Cemetery, Jasper.

Contributions are suggested to Last Harvest Cowboy Church.

Scott O. McMurphy
Aug. 2, 1960 – June 28, 2021

Scott McMurphy, 60, Butler, died June 28 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City. Scott Owen McMurphy was born Aug. 2, 1960, in Butler, the son of Lester and Norvella Crist McMurphy.

He was a 1978 graduate of Butler High School and very much enjoyed his career with Max Motors.

Scott was known to be a hard worker, but in his off time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Scott’s greatest love was time spent with his children and especially his grandchildren.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents; and ex-wife Marcia McMurphy.

He is survived by his fiancee, Michelle Triebel, and her children, Haylee, Bryce and Dylan; by his son Taylor McMurphy and wife, Gina, along with their children, Lilah, James and Korrina; by his daughter, Jennifer McMurphy, and her children, Bradley and Brayden; his daughter, Ashley McMurphy, and her children, Kenyon and Rayah; daughter, Rylea McMurphy; and his sister Susan Winters and husband, Christopher.

Funeral services were July 2 at the Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler. Cremation followed services with a family inurnment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

David D. Robey
Oct. 27, 1977 – June 28, 2021

David Douglas “Doug” Robey, 43, Butler, died June 28 at home in Butler. Doug was born Oct. 27, 1977, in Butler, the son of David RaGene and Evelyn Carol (Mouse) Robey.

He was baptized on July 2, 1989, at the age of 12.

He graduated from Adrian High School in 1996.

Doug married his best friend, Kacie Leigh Rice, on Aug. 14, 2004, at the First Christian Church in Butler and to this union two
children were born, David Zayne and Bryleigh Dawn.

Doug loved the simple things in life, camp fires, mudding, 4-wheeling, hunting, and anything that involved Kacie, Zayne and Bryleigh.

Kacie was not only his love, but his best friend. She was his favorite person to tease and just live life with. He could tell the best long version of a short story. Doug loved to read westerns and watch John Wayne and the “Dukes of Hazzard.”

He was a man of many talents, holding various occupations throughout his life. He enjoyed working for the city of Butler, West Central Ag, Cox Farms and lastly, he was yard supervisor for Mears. He gave 110 percent and expected the same from others. Doug could work on anything and rig things to work with parts most wouldn’t think of.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Kacie, and their two children, Zayne and Bryleigh; three sisters, Lynn Morris and husband, Jason, Debi Harrill and husband, Chad, and Stacy Sample and husband, Steve; parents-in-law, Dale and Debbie Colin, and Terry and Sandy Rice; sister-in-law, Tara Vermillion and her significant other, Johnny Fennewald; brothers-in-law, Justin Colin and wife, Amanda, Casey Colin and wife, Whitney, and Cameron Rice; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were July 5 at the Adrian Optimist Building in Adrian. Burial followed in Altona Cemetery, Altona. Memorial contributions may be made to the Doug Robey Memorial Fund, c/o Community First Bank, Butler.

Jennie M.L. Umstattd
Dec. 18, 1929 – June 27, 2021

Jennie Mae Lynn Umstattd, 91, Ballard, died June 27 at Butler Center in Butler. She was born Dec. 18, 1929, the daughter of Roy Earl and Gladys Olive Trone Lynn in Montrose, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.W. “Wigg” Umstattd, in 2003; two brothers, Raymond and Earl; a sister, Lois Ruth Lynn; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Renae Rowland.

Jennie is survived by two sons, Roy Umstattd and wife, Debbie, Adrian, and Tod Umstattd and wife, Lisa, Warsaw; two daughters, LynnDa Roberts and husband, Don, Raymore, and Carolyn Rowland and husband, Ryan, Butler; two sisters, June Holder, Terrell, Texas, andDorothy Buehler, Kansas City, Kansas; four sisters-in-law, Vera Lynn, Braymer, and Marjorie Umstattd, Ruby Ellen Wry and Shirley Umstattd, all of Ballard; nine grandchildren, Ashlee Bullard and husband Dustin, Brooki Bode and husband Patrick, Bailey Carr and husband Andy, Chance Umstattd and wife Mallory, Derek Roberts, Charlie Lilies and husband Jake, Maesyn Barclay and husband Riley, Russell Rowland and wife Amanda and Sterling Umstattd; and 11 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Evan and Adelynn Bullard, Abram, Braxton and Bowden Carr, Caiman, Oaklee and Tinlee Liles and Remington and Emberly Rowland.

Funeral services were July 3 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, with burial in Bethel Cemetery, Ballard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Bethel Cemetery or Ballard-Johnstown Scholarship.
