Rules vary for July 4 celebrating

With the Fourth of July just around the corner, southern Cass County cities have a variety of rules for fireworks.

Harrisonville will be allowing Independence Day enthusiasts to fire off their favorite firecrackers July 1 -4. On July 1-2, fireworks may be discharged from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., but the limit expands to midnight on.

While Archie does not have a fireworks ordinance, it does have a noise ordinance. There is no ban on certain firecrackers unless they reach a certain decibel. Residents are allowed to shoot fireworks from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In Cleveland, residents can shoot fireworks July 1-7. Beginning July 1 and then again on July 5-7, residents will be allowed to shoot fireworks from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. On July 2-4, Independence Day illuminations can be lit from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Drexel is allowing firecracker enthusiasts to indulge themselves July 1-4, limiting the legal time frame for fireworks from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. On the Fourth of July, fireworks can be torched from 7 a.m. to midnight.

Fireworks can be shot within the Peculiar city limits July 1-4. Residents will be allowed to blast away from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 1-3. Then, on July 4 only, fireworks can be set ablaze throughout the city from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Garden City begins its festivities by allowing fireworks to be shot within the city limits June 30 through July 7. Residents will be able to fire away from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. except on July 4 when fireworks can be legally discharged from 10 a.m. to midnight.

In Freeman, fireworks can be discharged July 1-7. Enthusiasts are allowed to fire off their Fourth of July explosives until 10 p.m. each day with an extension to midnight July 4.

Bottle rockets have been banned in all of the above-mentioned cities. Garden City has a ban on other aerial fireworks as well.

There will also be plenty of holiday events taking place starting this weekend and running into next weekend.

Harrisonville

With the shadow of COVID-19 still hanging around, the Harrisonville Park Board decided to limit its July 4 festivities to its annual fireworks display. The fireworks will begin at dusk with Shivers and Smoke N Flame Barbecue providing food vendor trucks for those in attendance.

Archie

The city of Archie is holding its annual fireworks display Saturday, June 26. Enthusiasts in attendance will be treated to plenty of fun, food, games and music at the Archie Sports Complex from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Drexel

On July 4, Drexel will kick off its one day extravaganza with its annual parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. Entrants are asked to line up at 9:30 a.m. A car show and horseshoe tournament will begin at 11 a.m. before the cornhole tournament takes place at 1 p.m.

Drexel is also having a bounce house for kids and food and business vendors. A DJ is lined up to play music throughout the day before the band, 68 Overpass, takes over at 5:30 p.m. The band will then provide entertainment leading up to the fireworks which begin at dusk.

Drexel ag teacher Dakota Tucker will be the grand marshal for the event.
