The Harrisonville boys’ basketball team saw its season come to an end after a 58-41 loss to Nevada March 2 at Nevada.
The game looked as if it might be close early with the score tied 10-10 halfway though the first quarter. The Tigers would go on an 11-0 run to end the quarter and lead 21-10. The Wildcats would chip away at the lead in the second quarter, but still found themselves down 31-24 at halftime.
“They were really good defensively and it caused issues for us all night,” head coach Jeff Langrehr said. “I don’t really know if I can explain why we shot the ball so poorly, but we were way off tonight. You credit their defense, but it was not our night. That might be the worst we’ve played offensively all year. It happens.”
The Wildcats would shoot 35 percent from the field and 22 percent from behind the three-point line. This was most evident in the third quarter when the Wildcats scored only four points and saw the deficit grow to 44-28.
Kobe Norris led the team in scoring with 14 points. Kennedy Atkinson had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. He finished the season second all -time in rebounds for a single season at Harrisonville.
Brooks Langrehr scored eight points in the loss, but he ends the season with 569 points, good for 22.8 points a game. He highlights a senior class featuring nine athletes on the team.
Norris, Atkinson, Langrehr, Connor Blixt, Monty Schroeder, Corbin Hall, Matt Stacy, Kyle Mensching and James Tieman are all who contributed to thisyear’s team which went 16-9. Tieman missed the final game due to quarantine.
“Our seniors obviously mean a lot to me,” Langrehr said. “We kept a lot of them and I’ve been criticized at times for how many we kept, but at the same time those guys have put in their time. They’ve been really good and several of them have been a part of the 33 wins we’ve achieved the last two years. They’re just good kids.”
