Connie Knox
Sept. 6, 1923 – Sept. 14, 2020
Longtime Harrisonville resident Connie (Trog) Knox died Sept. 14 at the age of 97, at Meadow View of Harrisonville Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Connie was born Sept. 6, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Chiffelle) Trog. She was the fourth of five daughters. Connie also had two half-sisters and two half-brothers. She was no stranger to a large family, which later in life would prove useful.
Connie graduated from Peculiar High School and took a job at the Peculiar Bank as a teller and bookkeeper. She held several other interesting jobs in her life, including school nurse, working election boards and babysitting.
Connie married Robert Knox June 22, 1946, after Robert returned home from the war. Six children blessed this marriage, Linda and Chris Patrick, Janet and Lee Gaddy, Diane and CW Noble, Debbie and John Winders, Denise and Steve Miller and Doug and Amy Knox. Bob and Connie made their home in Harrisonville for more than 50 years.
Connie enjoyed the closeness of family. She loved camping trips to the lake and deer camp. She could be ready to go at a moment’s notice. The RV was always stocked and ready.
Connie played hostess to many Friday night friendly family poker games and would occasionally be caught at the casino perched in front of her favorite slot machine.
But, by far, her two favorite things to do were have a talk over a cup of coffee or simply sit on the front porch in her rocker.
Connie was a quilter. She cut and hand sewed each block, often gathering material from the dresses of her children, shirts of her husband or leftovers from the prior quilts. Each holiday her children and grandchildren anxiously waited to see if their gift was one of “Granny’s famous quilts.” And each year, they were disappointed.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, Aug. 10, 2002; a daughter, Karen Denise; all of her siblings and their spouses; all of Robert’s siblings and their spouses. Connie was literally the last of a generation.
She is survived by her five remaining children, Linda, Janet, Diane, Debbie and Doug; grandchildren, Joe, Shanda, Sean, Sara, Jordan, Keri, Kyle, John and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Kennedy, Corbin, Mason, Ariel, Isabelle, Junior and Snowdin, along with an uncountable number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services were Sept. 17 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Brenda Nichols
Feb. 13, 1946 – Sept. 13, 2020
Brenda Nichols, 74, Drexel, died Sept. 13 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City.
Brenda was born Feb. 13, 1946, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the daughter of James and Nina Wright Pratt.
June 2, 1962, she married Jimmy Ray Nichols in Corcoran, California.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jimmy.
She is survived by her children and their families, son, Allen Nichols, Grandview, daughter Terri Corbin, Drexel, son Keith Nichols, Harrisonville, and daughter Melissa Mariano, Drexel.
Graveside services were Sept. 19 at Sharon Cemetery, Drexel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nichols family.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel.
Shirley L. Willis
Sept. 25, 1934 – Sept. 14, 2020
Shirley Louise Willis, Harrisonville, was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Edgerton, the daughter of Lawson Elmer and Susan Minerva (Martin) Rice. She died Sept. 14, 2020.
Shirley was called to the mission field at an early age, but wasn’t fully released until later in life after serving her family.
A fully licensed and ordained evangelistic missionary through Christ for The Nations, Dallas, Texas, End Time Handmaiden, licensed minister with Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers International, prayer warrior with Intercessors International, ordained at Church on the Rock, graduate of Christian International College and Theology School, completing courses in ministering to alcohol and drug dependent addicts and women’s abuse victims.
She journeyed worldwide (China, Japan, Middle East, Russian block nations, Africa and South America) as a servant for the gospel of Christ.
She saw and experienced God’s mighty hand of mercy, grace, forgiveness and redemption walking through a modern version of the chapter of Acts, witnessing His tremendous love through signs and wonders to the peoples of all nations.
After her final journey home, she rejoices with her Lord and waits until we all will meet again.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Rice; two sisters, Francis Wade and Marjorie Thierolf.
Shirley is survived by a son, Charles Willis and wife, Donna, Harrisonville; two daughters, Gwen E. Jacobs and husband, William, Warrensburg, and Mary Susan Peterson and husband, Von J., Adrian,; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a sister, Patsy Bellwood, Apache Junction, Arizona; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were Sept. 18 at the Ridgely Cemetery in Ridgely.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Karen Mallatt
Feb. 16, 1952 – Sept. 11, 2020
Karen Ann Mallatt, 68, Butler, died Sept. 11 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City. She was born Feb. 16, 1952, the daughter of Aaron and Betty Jane Cooper Harper in Butler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers, Steven Hawkins and Danny Cooper.
Karen is survived by her husband, John Mallatt, Butler; three brothers, Keith Shobe and wife, Teresa, Butler, Gerald Shobe and wife, Debra, Rich Hill, and Kenny Cooper, Butler; two sisters, Etta Jack and husband, Jamie, Kansas City, and Carla Besendorfer and husband, Daniel, Butler; an uncle, Walter Wright, Butler; nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives.

Hadley R. Scrogham
May 30, 1934 – Sept. 15, 2020
Hadley “Hat” Ray Scrogham, 86, Rich Hill, died Sept. 15 at Butler Center in Butler.
He was born May 30, 1934, the son of Frank Hadley and Delorous Christine Morgan Scrogham in Amoret.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Roberta, in 2012; and a sister, Marla June Burnett.
Hadley is survived by three sons, Duane Scrogham, Butler, Cecil Scrogham and wife, Tammy, Hutchinson, Kansas, and Marty Scrogham and wife, Janie, Liberty; two brothers, Paul Scrogham, Kansas City and Charlie Scrogham and wife, Lisa, Butler; and 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside memorial services at Oak Hill Cemetery for Hadley Scrogham will be announced at a later date.

Charles V. Wehar
Sept. 13, 1938 – Sept. 15, 2020
Charles Vincent “Sonny” Wehar, 82, Hume, died Sept. 15 at his home in Hume. He was born Sept. 13, 1938, the son of Louis and Mary Rosella Malis Wehar in Worland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Wehar; a sister, Margie Duffield; and a grandson, Luke Schuman.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Lavena Fay Wehar, Hume; a son, John Slack and wife, Deanna, Tuttle, Oklahoma; three daughters, Shelley Flood and husband, Kim, North Bonneville, Washington, Charla Miller and husband, Tim, Hume, and Tracie Carroll, Colorado; a brother, George Wehar and wife, Connie, Hume; a sister, Rosemary Eldred and husband, Bill, of Butler; eight grandchildren, Jeff, Charla, Tim, Cori, Wylie, Daisy, Zane and Kelee; and three great-grandchildren, Gracie, Sam and Dominic.
Funeral services for Charles “Sonny” Wehar were Sept. 20 at Grace Fellowship Church in Worland. Burial was in Woodfin Cemetery, Foster.
