Mark S. Atkinson
Nov. 5, 1954 – Aug. 5, 2020
Mark Shawn Atkinson, Blairstown, was born Nov. 5, 1954, in Clinton, the son of Samuel Dean and Erma Jean (Stark) Atkinson. He died Aug. 5 at his home at the age of 65 years and 9 months.
Mark was a farmer and stockman. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mark was a lifelong area resident of Blairstown and a 1972 graduate of Sherwood High School, Creighton.
He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter and was a talented musician having played the guitar, banjo and keyboard.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark is survived by his brother, James D. Atkinson and wife, Carol, Dogue, Virginia; two nephews, Jacob and Eric Atkinson; a great-nephew, Brandon; other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services were Aug. 12 at the Carpenter Cemetery, Chilhowee.

Robert L. Crook
Jan. 1, 1938 – Aug. 7, 2020
Robert Leroy Crook, 82, Drexel, died Aug. 7 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Leroy was born Jan. 1, 1938, in West Line, the son of William Dewey and
Dortha Corin (Davenport) Crook.
He married Shirley Stewart June 4, 1965, at the home of the Rev. Joe Brewster. Leroy attended school in Freeman, after which he enlisted and served in the United States Army for eight years.
Once he returned home and got married, he spent 30 plus years as a road grader operator for Cass County while raising beef cattle on his farm.
Throughout his life, Leroy was a supporter, provider and a problem solver.
Giving selflessly to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, there was no request too great for him to meet.
Leroy earned himself several unofficial titles within the family: jigsaw puzzler, card game enthusiast, support pillar, hero, provider, No. 1 fan at any concerts or sporting events and probably the most commonly used ornery old fart.
Never was there a day you couldn’t call on Leroy for a laugh, a leg up or some of his legendary sassy sarcasm, which much to their parents’ chagrin has rubbed off on all the grandchildren.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Crook; and his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Jim Muchmore.
He is survived by his sister, Kaye and Jon Seabaugh; two daughters, Dee Baker and Peggy Moore and Dennis; five grandchildren, Stephen Shoaf and Nikki, Jessica Crawford and Matthew, Bobby Baker, Joseph Moore, Katrina Weir and Cameron; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Aug. 11 at Carpenter Cemetery, Chilhowee. In lieu of flowers, Leroy would like donations sent to Carpenter Cemetery where he and Shirley rest.

Robert D. Gibson, Jr.
Feb. 3, 1966 – Aug. 5, 2020
Robert “Rob” Dale Gibson. Jr., Butler, formerly of Harrisonville, died Aug. 5 at the age of 54. A memorial service was held Aug. 11 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Rob was born Feb. 3, 1966, in Kansas City, the son of Robert “Bob” Dale Gibson, Sr., and Gladys “Pearl” Gibson.
Rob was a loving father, son, brother and uncle. He was a rambunctious spirit who loved rock ’n’ roll, motorcycles and spending time with his family.
Rob was a talented artist and had a passion for drawing that he shared with his daughter. Rob enjoyed astronomy and on a clear night he could point out planets and constellations. Rob was an avid music lover and he shared his passion with anyone who would listen.
Rob was preceded in death by his father, Bob Gibson.
He is survived by his mother, Pearl Gibson; his daughter, Brittney Gibson; sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Joe Porter; sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and David Roberts; stepson, Tyler Williams; nieces, Pamela McCubbin, Jessica Roberts, Holly D’Alfonso, Ivy Hays, Skilyn Roberts and Serenity Roberts; nephews, Nick Porter and Reggie Roberts; and many great-nieces; great-nephews; and cousins.
He will be missed by all. Rock on.

Harvey N. Lee
Jan. 17, 1933 – Aug. 12, 2020
Harvey Lee, 87, Drexel, died Aug. 12 at his home in Drexel.
Harvey Nichols Lee was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Phelps County, the son of Joseph and Martha Robbins Lee.
He grew up in the Duke area and attended the Blooming Rose country school. Following school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he worked various jobs, with the last being a 34 year career with Bendix before retirement.
April 11, 1955, Harvey married the love of his life, Ruth Marie Murphy. He was a devoted family man and cattleman who enjoyed life. He loved the family camping trips, hunting, fishing, almost anything outdoors. Harvey was a well traveled man, but specially enjoyed his trips to Alaska to fish and visit friends.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Russell and Ray Lee; and sisters, Maxine Lee Dougan, Pauline Van Natta Ziegler and Bess Lee Branter.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Lee, of the home in Drexel; his son John Lee and wife, Janice, their son, Jonathan Lee and wife Jamie, their grandchildren, Alexander and Kat Lee, daughter Kelsey Lee, and daughter MacKenzie Hernandez and husband, Ricky.
He also leaves behind his son, David Lee and wife, Lisa, Drexel, their daughter Christina Moyer and husband, Christopher, and granddaughter, Taylor Lee, son, Joshua Chamberlain, daughter, Samantha Lyons and husband, Zechariah, and grandson Bennett Lyons.
He also leaves his daughter, Brenda Marks and husband, Danny, their son, Jeremy Marks and wife, Jillian, granddaughters, Gracie and Allie Marks, and their sons, Jeff Marks and Tom Marks.
Harvey is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A private family funeral service was Aug. 15 at the Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel, with burial following in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Drexel Public School Foundation to be used for scholarships and grants.

Charles Ronald “Ron” McNaughton

Charles Ronald “Ron” McNaughton, 69, Ottawa, Kansas, died Aug. 10 at Olathe Medical Center.
Ron was born May 17, 1951, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles H. and Edith (Boothe) McNaughton. He has lived in Ottawa for the last 20 years. From 1978 to 2000, Ron lived in Harrisonville, and from 1973 to 1977 in Hermosa Beach, California.
He graduated from Shawnee Mission West with the class of 1969, and continued his education at Pittsburg State University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology.
Ron was employed 13 years at the Nissan Motor Corporation. He was a district service representative serving four states: Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska in the 1970s and 1980s. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church and served as an acolyte. Ron was a former member of the Harrisonville Optimist Club.
He was a youth soccer coach and started the high school soccer program at Harrisonville. Ron enjoyed surfing in California, and fishing and working on cars. Above all, he enjoyed family and the times they spent together.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Chris McNaughton, Carroll, Nebraska, and Dustin (Amy) McNaughton, Benton, Arkansas; three step children, Pat (Lola) Ryan, Chandler, Arizona, Parvaneh Daneshmand, Bentonville, Arkansas, and Parissa Daneshmand, Boston, Massachusetts; sister, Judy (Jay) Hildreth, Wamego, Kansas; and granddaughter, Abigail McNaughton, Benton, Arkansas.

Carol A. Seleman
Aug. 20, 1942 – May 27, 2020
Carol Ann “Sugar” Seleman, Creighton, was born Aug, 20, 1942, in Kansas City, the daughter of Donald Thomas and Virginia (Wineburg) Jackson. She died May 27 at her home surrounded by love and family at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 7 days.
May 14, 1960, Carol married Terry Paul Seleman in Independence.
Carol was a homemaker and later worked at Pro Air with Coburn McCulloh until her retirement in 2004. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Urich.
Carol was the water aerobics instructor in Garden City, was an avid reader and a Swedish weaver.
She and Terry moved to the farm in 1971. Carol was a special grandma and great-grandma and will be missed by all.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ret. United States Marine Gunnery Sgt. Albert Jackson.
Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years, Terry Seleman of the home; two sons, Paul Seleman and wife, Marsha, Harrisonville, and Marty Seleman and wife, Loretta, Garden City; a daughter, Ginny Seleman and companion Calvin Luethe, El Dorado Springs; four grandchildren, Kayla, Cassandra, Austin and Christopher; three great-grandchildren, Dallas, Mason and Skylar; a sister, Peggy Walters and husband, Raymond, Lexing- ton; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation. A celebration of life visitation was Aug. 20 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.

Myron Smuder
June 5, 1939 – Aug. 5, 2020
Myron Smuder, 81, Peculiar, died Aug. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Myron was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 5, 1939, the son of Ralph Albert Zmuda and Geniva G. (Condon) Zmuda.
After high school, Myron began his career serving his country in the United States Air Force. For 23 years he faithfully served during the end of the Korean War and all through the Vietnam War.
Myron earned a Bachelor’s Degree and went on to work in retail for 15 years as a manager at Radio Shack.
Myron married Mary H. Shelton and together they were blessed with a son, Michael. While Myron took much pride in his faithful and honorable service with the United States Air Force, he also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Geniva Zmuda.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary H. Smuder; a son, Michael D. Smuder and Leslyn; two brothers, Ralph Zmuda and Harold Jackson; two sisters, Marie Chapman and Sherri Wald; and two granddaughters, Mikayla and Haley.

Margaret E. Todd
April 17, 1931 – Aug. 5, 2020
Margaret Evelyn (Foster) Todd, 89, died Aug. 5 at Westwood Nursing Center, Clinton.
Margaret was born April 17, 1931, the daughter of Luther and Grace (Larue) Foster in Henry County and was raised in Tightwad.
Margaret had a love for music, dancing, fishing, gardening, mowing and building houses.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Grace (Larue) Foster; her first husband, Kenneth Cochran; daughter, Evelyn Cochran; her second husband, Quentin Todd; and multiple siblings.
Margaret is survived by nine children, Derrill and Linda Cochran, Bonnie Lake, Washington, Norma and Scott Wareham, Clinton, Wanda Cochran, Florence, Oregon, Jerry and Betty Cochran, Calhoun, Thomas Cochran, Salem, Oregon, Barbara and Keith Winter, Clinton, Robert and Deborah Todd, Fairbanks, Alaska, Phillip and Crystal Todd, Harrisonville, Raymond Todd, Springfield; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service was held Aug. 14 at Parks Chapel Cemetery
in Tightwad.

Raymond O. Brewster
March 7, 1922 – Aug. 11, 2020
Raymond Oliver Brewster, 98, Butler, died Aug. 11 at Adrian Manor, Adrian. Raymond was born March 7, 1922, in Kansas City, Kansas, the oldest of 10 children born to James Oliver and Pearl Eleanor (Gravatt) Brewster.
He was a graduate of Merwin High School. Raymond married Nona Belle
Elliott April 29, 1943, in Pleasant Hill. He had lived in Merwin, Drexel and Kansas City, before moving to Butler in 1991. He was a United States Army Air Corp World War II veteran. Raymond was proud of the fact that he had circled the world while in the military.
Raymond was a quality control inspector for Pittman Manufacturing Co. in Grandview and later for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City.
He was a Past Master of the Coldwater Masonic Lodge in Drexel.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nona Belle, Sept. 30, 2012.
He is survived by two sons, Bob Brewster and Barbara, Adrian, and Ron Brewster and Lois, Shawano, Wisconsin; a brother, Earl Brewster and Jeanie, Adrian; a sister, Elsie Harris, Fayetteville; sisters-in-law, Irene Welliver, Amsterdam, Norma Lee Brewster, Pleasant Hill, Judy Brewster, Overland Park, Kansas, and Eleanor Hessenflow, Harrison, Arkansas; two brothers-in-law, Asa Bennett, Harrisonville, and Kenneth Musick, Drexel; six grandchildren, Bobby Brewster and Krista, Adrian, Stacey Maher and Jason, Adrian, Heather Vaughan and Joe, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jeremy Brewster, Adrian, Anna Brewster and Mary Brewster, both of Chicago, Illinois; 11 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Collin, Alex, Taylor, Serenity, McKinley, Ryan, Eli, Kael, Cooper and Danyelle; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brylee Kay and Ava Marie.
Graveside services were Aug. 15 at Sharon Cemetery, Drexel.

Bruce W. Buhr
June 20, 1924 – Aug. 12, 2020
Bruce Wayne Buhr, 96, Adrian, died Aug. 12 at his home. Bruce was born June 20, 1924, in Horton, the son of Arnold Fred and Grace Irene (Kimrey) Buhr.
He grew up in Horton and was a 1942 graduate of Rich Hill High School. Bruce was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Honeywell (Bendix) after 37 years of service. In conjunction with Bendix, he was a chiropractor for 15 years.
Bruce also officiated volleyball and 3&2 baseball for 20 years. He enjoyed volunteering at Boy Scout camp in Osceola and was an honorary member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
He loved being a part of his community.
He was a member of Adrian United Methodist Church, Crescent Hill Masonic Lodge No. 368, Adrian, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1935, Adrian Optimist Club and he also helped out with the city taxi and Meals on Wheels. Bruce enjoyed his acreage, Bittersweet Acres, gardening, duck hunting and card games. He also loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Floyd; and sisters, Betty Lou and Beverley Manning; and his first and second wives, Maxine and Ginger.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy (White) Buhr, of the home; three daughters, Glenda Ramsey, Independence, Renda King and Steve, Pleasant Hill, and Kenda McMurray, Buckner, which were born to his union of marriage in 1947 to Maxine Thornburg Weir; stepdaughter, Brenda Skeens and Joe, Grain Valley; three stepsons, Leroy White and Debbie, Grain Valley, Mark White and Kristen, Rich Hill, and Scott White and Charisse, Kansas City; sister-in-law, Joanne Buhr, Adrian; sister, Melba Edmonds, Nevada; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Masonic Services were Aug. 17 and the funeral followed at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
