The number of people testing positive for COVID-19, who may have been infected at a July 3 party in rural Harrisonville have grown to 50.
On July 13 it was reported 21 cases had been associated with party goers. On July 14, the Cass County Health Department held a special screening for persons who either attended the party or may have had contact with a party participant. Sara Czech of the health department said 134 people were tested and 16 tests came back positive. She noted others had been identified through other tests leading to the total of 50.
Czech also warned that while there was a connection to the party, individuals may have contracted the virus in another way.
“It could have been there, it could have someplace else,” she said. “But we know 50 people who attended the party also tested positive.”
While the total number of reported cases in Cass County had grown to 401 as of Monday, Czech said only two were being hospitalized, the rest have recovered or are recovering at home.
Capt. Kevin Tieman of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Monday no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the party, despite numerous reports of underage drinking.
