ABC Health Care closing its doors

ABC Health Care, a residential facility in Harrisonville for adults with mental illnesses and mild behavioral disorders, is closing due to space limitations and health considerations created by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a press release Monday.

All 50 of its current residents will be located to the Riverbend Heights Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lexington beginning July 21. The transfer of residents is expected to be completed by the end of July, at which time ABC Health will close its doors and cease operations.

“We feel it is necessary to move our current residents to another location that offers significantly more room for social distancing and other practices that can better protect their health and safety,” said Craig Workman, spokesperson for ABC Health Care. “There have been no reports of coronavirus among any of our residents or staff to date. Instead, we are doing this out of an abundance of caution. We are already operating at 100 percent capacity and have no room to expand and create a safer environment.”

Workman said Riverbend Heights currently offers skilled nursing and rehabilitation services to 72 residents and is licensed for 154 beds. The facility will begin offering a full range of mental health services to support the new residents coming from ABC Health Care.

“We are saddened at having to close ABC Health,” Workman said. “We take pride in our long history of providing quality and compassionate care to hundreds of residents and their families over the years. Our current residents are excited at the prospect of moving to a larger facility and making new friends.”

Workman said ABC Health Care is working to find new employment opportunities for its staff at other residential facilities in the Harrisonville area. Future plans for property, located at 307 E. South St. are not known at this time.

ABC Health is one of 16 residential nursing and rehabilitation facilities across Missouri managed by REACH, LTC. Riverbend Heights is also managed by REACH.
