Area tree lightings usher in the holidays

Towns across southern Cass County will be lighting up in the next few weeks as traditional Christmas lighting ceremonies are held to welcome the holiday season.

Leading the way this year will be Cleveland, as city officials host the first ever Christmas lighting event at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in front of city hall. Mr. and Mrs. Claus are expected to arrive in a Western Cass fire engine to help throw the switch on the downtown lights. Families, residents and visitors are welcome to take pictures with the happy holiday couple, enjoy carols and refreshments.

Also on Nov. 30, Adrian will hold a Christmas Parade, starting at 4:30 p.m. The parade route will be from the VFW Hall to Old 71 Highway. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to visit with those attending. Businesses also plan to be open for shoppers.

In Harrisonville, the Holiday Pageant, open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade, starts at 4 p.m. on the second floor of the Cass County Courthouse. Visitors can also warm up with some hot Wendy’s chili from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce offices and place bids in the silent auction for Christmas-themed items. A community choir will entertain on the courthouse steps starting at 5:45 p.m., followed by the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m.

The Bright Futures Holiday Store will also be open from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at Harrisonville Middle School.

The annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 in Pleasant Hill at the Memorial Building, 212 Cedar St. Children can visit with Santa starting at 4 p.m., and entertainment will start at 5 p.m. on the gazebo stage, followed by the tree lighting at 5:45 p.m. New in Pleasant Hill this year is the Holiday UTV and Golf Cart Light Parade at 4:30 p.m. For complete information about the parade, visit the Pleasant Hill website at https://www.pleasanthill.com.
