Upgrades planned on M-58, 291

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced plans to make a series of intersection improvements along Highway 58 at Route 291, at Ward Road and at Prairie Lane in northern Cass County.

In addition, M-58 will be resurfaced from Prairie Lane to Route 291 as part of the project.

MoDOT officials say work is expected to begin during the spring of 2021 and be complete by fall of the same year.

Total costs are estimated at $6.5 million funded by state and federal funds.

Chief among the improvements are the addition of turning lanes at M-58 and Route 291. This will allow motorists turning south from M-58 onto Route 291 and those turning west from Route 291 onto M-58 to access dedicated right hand turn lanes.

Traffic lights at the intersection will also be upgraded, replacing the temporary span wires with a permanent signal installation.

New roundabouts are planned along Highway 58 at Prairie Lane and at Ward Road.

The public is encouraged to provide input on the plan. More information about the project can be found online at http://www.modot.org/route-58- intersection-improvements. Detailed maps are available and space is available for comments to be left.
