Helen Nadine Bailey

Helen Nadine Bailey, 95, Harrisonville, died May 26 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.
Helen was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Oak Creek, Colorado, the daughter of John Edward and Myrtle M. (Harper) Crotty.
She lived in Austin and was a 1942 graduate of Archie High School, Archie. She was a member of the Austin Baptist Church.
Helen had worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Plant in Kansas City during World War II. She lived in Texas before moving to Harrisonville in 1990.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Albert “Jack” LaFreniere and Ray Bailey; a daughter, Elayne Jones; and a sister, Norma Fields.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Michael Eubank and Angela Eubank, Krum, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Hayworth and Nick Eubank; three great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Donna Clary, Savannah.
Funeral services were May 31 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Cremation followed the funeral service with interment at a later date in Burford Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Lois K. Brigance
Jan. 11, 1920 – May 26, 2019
Lois Katrina Brigance, Harrisonville, was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Waldron, Arkansas, the daughter of Roy and Martha Sue (Hunsucker) Sehorn.
She died May 26 at her home in Harrisonville at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 15 days.
Sept. 24, 1945, Lois was married to Loyd G. Brigance in Waldron.
Lois was employed as a tax examiner for the IRS Banister Service Center, Kansas City, until her retirement in 1981.
She was a 60-plus year member of the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville, where she taught Sunday School for more than 30 years and helped with VBS for more than 20 years. Lois was a member or the Cass Medical Center Auxiliary.
She enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, planting and growing flowers and feeding the birds.
Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Brigance, May 9, 1999; a son, Gerald L. Brigance, Oct. 19, 1999; an infant grandson, Michael Brigance; several brothers and sisters.
Lois is survived by a son, Leslie V. Brigance, Harrisonville; a daughter, Joyce K. Rephlo and husband, Joe, Belton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchil-dren; a stepgranddaughter and a stepgreat-granddaughter; a brother, Melvin Sehorn, Raymore; and a sister, Jan Russell, Harrisonville; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were June 4 at the Dickey Funeral Home with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church Harrisonville and left at the funeral home.

Era Nadine Chapman
Dec. 18, 1942 – May 28, 2019
Era Nadine Chapman, 76, Drexel, died May 28 at her home. A memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. June 9 at Martha’s Bakery in Amoret.
Era was born Dec. 18, 1942, in Drexel the daughter of Arlow Stockler and Tressie May (Deshazer) Zeller.
She married Arle Gene Chapman Aug. 14, 1986, in Lords Park, Harrisonville.
Era worked at Truman East Hospital as a CNA. She was raised in Drexel and had lived in Zion, Illinois, before moving to Harrisonville in 1973. She moved to Carthage in 1981 and back to Drexel in 2001.
Era was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Patty Wright and Sandra Miller.
She is survived by her husband, Arle, of the home; three daughters, Joyce Stevenson (Chris), San Antonio, Texas, Melody Dye, Neosho, and Tressie McCullough (Justin), Amoret; a brother, Joe Zeller, Clinton; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Dorothy Keene
Feb. 9, 1942 – May 25, 2019
Dorothy Keen, 77, Butler, died May 25 at the home of her daughter, Becki, and fiancé, Alva, Ballard.
She was born Feb. 9, 1942, the daughter of Virgil William and Georgia Lucille Freeman Neill in Oakland, California.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Virgil William Neill; mother, Georgia Lucille Raydley; husband, Bob Keene, Sr.; a brother, Delmar Neill; mother-in-law, Grace Keene; father-in-law, Monte Keene; brother-in-law, Monte James Keene; and two nephews, Eddie Darrell Keene and Steve Keene.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Bobby E. Keene, Jr., and fiancée, Gay Bedwell, Butler; two daughters, Becki Smith and fiancé Alva Thornhill, Ballard, and Susan Miller and husband, Chat, Harrisonville; a sister-in-law, Joyce Boydstan, and her husband, Tom, Oilton, Oklahoma.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Mylissa Jennings and husband, Jasen; Josh Smith and wife, Lari; Shane McCoun and wife, Nicole; Tiffany Morris and husband, Daniel; Justin Keene and wife, Anna; and Amanda Thornhill and husband, Jess; and 16 great-grandchil-dren.
Funeral services were May 31 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

James N. Peterson
July 21, 1963 – May 20, 2019
James Noble Peterson, 55, Rushville, was born, July 21, 1963, in Freemont, California, the son of James Neal and Cathleen (Lynch) Peterson. He died May 20 at his home.
He attended Williamson High School in Freemont. Following graduation and after extensive training, he became a skilled millwright and proud member of Union Local No. 1529.
He enjoyed collecting and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a hard worker and would give the shirt off his back to help someone; most importantly he loved his family.
Jim was preceded in death by mother, Cathy.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Azlynn and Justin Stacy, Peculiar; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Amanda Peterson, Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Brecklynn Stacy and Caden Stacy, both of Peculiar; three siblings, Kimberly Andrews, Herriman, Utah, Christine (and Floyd) Dugger, Roy, Washington, and Michael (and Stacy) Peterson, Lee’s Summit; several cousins, nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Per Jim’s wishes cremation has been accorded. A celebration of his life gathering will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Saint Luke’s Hospice House or Three River’s Hospice, St. Joseph, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

John H. Richardson

John H. Richardson, 83, Grandview, died May 26 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City.
Funeral services were May 30 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with burial in Glenwild Cemetery, Cleveland.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Kansas City Hospice, The American Diabetes Association or Glenwild Cemetery.
John was born March 1, 1936, at the family home in West Line, the son of Clifford Percy and Martha Irene (Gallamore) Richardson. John was a lifelong area resident and a 1953 graduate of Freeman High School, Freeman. He was a United States Army veteran.
John was married to Nancy Randolph June 3, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma, and they had lived in Grandview for 46 years.
John worked for General Motors/AC Delco Battery Plant in Olathe, Kansas, for 43 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of UAW Local No. 1041. John was well known in the local country music scene, playing the guitar, singing and writing songs.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Craig; his parents; three brothers, Bud Richardson, Gene Richardson and Bob Richardson; and five sisters, Evelyn Moul, Betty Freeman, Martha Lyon, Pat Seacrest and Marcella Cross.
John is survived by his wife, Nancy, Grandview; a son, Mark Richardson, Belton; a daughter, Terri Jo Richardson, Grandview; two brothers, Jessie Richardson (JoAnn), Cleveland, and Larry Richardson (Linda), Belton; a sister, Mary Jane Ullery (Glendon), Lee’s Summit; and a granddaughter, Ava Grace Richardson.

Bruce Milton Stark
Feb. 8, 1930 – May 28, 2019
Bruce Milton Stark, 89, Drexel, died May 28 at his home. Bruce was born Feb. 8, 1930, the son of Raymond Lee and Vinecy Lee Bogar Stark in Freeman.
June 6, 1948, he married Delores Dawson.
Bruce is survived by son, Donald “Pete” Stark and wife, Linda, Prescott, Kansas, and a daughter, Tamera Motley and husband, Dave, Drexel; a sister-in-law, Louise “Susie” Miller, Melbourne, Florida; eight grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores, in 2015; his sons, Elijah, in 1982, and Ron in 2015; a daughter, Deborah Morgan in 2017; and two brothers, R.L. and Bill.
Funeral services were June 1 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, with burial in the Sharon Cemetery near Drexel.
Contributions are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Roy Jameson Sutcliffe infant son of Samuel Lee and Timi Ann (Drake) Sutcliffe, Freeman, died May 27 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, surrounded by love and family.
Roy is survived by his parents, Sam and Timi Sutcliffe, and his brother, Kayden Lee Sutcliffe, all of the home; his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Donna Sutcliffe, Waldon, Arkansas, Stephanie Sutcliffe, Pe-culiar; maternal grandparents, Ron and Rhonda Tabor, Freeman; paternal great-grandparents, Don and Eileen Sutcliffe and Steven and Annette Siegenthaler. all of Freeman; maternal great-grandparents, Wanda and Roy Drake, Harrisonville, and Fred Feugate, Sr., Harrisonville; paternal great-grandparents, Melvin and Linda Tabor, Creighton, Sue and Lloyd Rudell, Harrisonville; maternal great-great-grandparents, Geneva Schrock, Garden City, Thelma Quick, Harrisonville; aunts, uncles; other relatives and a host of friends.

Sherry Throckmorton
July 28, 1962 – May 28, 2019
Sherry Lynn Throckmorton, Belton, was born July 28, 1962, in St. Louis, the daughter of Gerald Fuller and Mary Lee (Sorrell) Stevens.
She died May 28 at her home in Belton at the age of 56 years and 10 months.
Sherry owned and operated Above and Beyond House Cleaning in Garden City.
She loved being a mom, was a very generous woman and loved to crochet and make afghans for people. Sherry will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Larry and Gary Fuller; and a sister, Brenda Thompson.
Sherry is survived by her daughter, Nicole Throckmorton, Creighton; a brother, Ronald Fuller, St. Louis; a sister, Judith Kennedy, Garden City; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A graveside service was June 3 at the Myrtle Cemetery in Myrtle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to go to Nicole Throckmorton.

James Tjardes
Dec. 28, 1948 – May 21, 2019
James “Jim” LeRoy Tjardes, Holden, was born Dec. 28, 1948, in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, the son of Boyd Anson (Jim) and Letha Ardella (Pyle) Tjardes.
He died May 21 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit, surrounded by love and family at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 23 days.
Jim was married to Kathryn Anne Brown Jan. 6, 1972, in Holden.
Jim was employed as an examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City until his retirement in 2004. He loved the outdoors with gardening and beekeeping as his favorite hobbies. He adapted his walker to fit between the rows of produce.
Even after losing his leg, he gardened from his electric wheelchair. Jim loved to share his bountiful garden produce with his family and friends. Jim’s favorite admonition to his grandchildren was, “Read your Bible and obey it.”
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathryn B. Tjardes, of the home; four sons, Boyd Anson Tjardes (Viencia), San Diego, California, Ernest Delbert Tjardes (Selena), Holden, Lemuel Wayne Tjardes (Stacy), Garden City, and Theodore Ray Tjardes, Lawrence, Kansas; a daughter, Beth Anne Tjardes-Robbins (Philip Richard), PoySippi, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Jaford, Debby, Sahara and Liam Tjardes and Renwick, Hadassah and Shiloh Robbins; two sisters, Judy Tjardes, Saginaw, Texas, Sharyn Hulter, Topeka, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.
A celebration of life service was held June 1 at the Garden City Community Building, Garden City.
