Alzheimer’s support group to meet
Cass Regional Medical Center will host an Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 8 in conference room 1, located directly inside the main entrance of the hospital at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

Stop the Bleed presentation at CRMC
Cass Regional Medical Center will present a free Stop the Bleed educational program from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 in conference rooms 1 and 2, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.
Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within five to 10 minutes. However, with proper training, anyone at the scene can act as an immediate responder.
The Stop the Bleed program includes instruction and practice on proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use your hands, dressings and tourniquets.

GriefShare session planned
The death of a spouse brings a unique kind of pain. People who are widowed haven’t just lost a loved one, they have lost an entire lifestyle. If you have had a spouse die, you are invited to a special standalone GriefShare session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9.
Those attending will receive useful information and go home with a valuable booklet that will provide tools to help navigate your journey.

Free community health screenings at Citizens Bank
Cass Regional Medical Center is providing free health screenings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 11 at Citizens Bank, 218 S. Second St., Drexel.
Receive free blood pressure, blood oxygen and blood sugar screenings, and obtain a free total lipid profile which measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides.
For most accurate results, screening participants are asked to fast for at least 12 hours prior to the screening and take medications as usual (with water only). No appointments are necessary.

Town Hall meeting planned
Alderwomen Judy Bowman and Judith Reece will have a town hall meeting at 9 a.m. Jan. 12 in the HUB at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, 2600 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville.
Sonya McLelland, administrative director of foundation, marketing and public relations, and trauma program coordinator Paula McBride, RN, CEN with Cass Regional Medical Center, will be the guest presenters.
McBride will demonstrate the capabilities of “Trauma Hal,” the newest member of the CRMC patient simulator family. Hal is a trauma patient simulator used for the ongoing training and preparedness of Cass Regional’s Emergency Department staff and area EMS professionals.
McBride will also discuss “Stop the Bleed,” a national awareness campaign to educate first responders, teachers and the public about bleeding control.
There will be time for questions regarding happenings in the city, and refreshments will be provided.

Diabetes support group to meet
Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free diabetes support group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in conference rooms 1, 2 and 3, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., in Harrisonville.
Monthly, Cass Regional’s Diabetes Education team presents topics on current trends in diabetes treatments, lifestyle modification options and topics of interest for those who have diabetes or who have loved ones diagnosed with diabetes.

Feb. 22 and March 5
Pesticide training scheduled
Cass County will have its annual Private Pesticide Applicators Training at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 and 6 p.m. March 5.
To register, call the Cass County Extension Center at 816-380-8460. Those planning to attend are asked to call at least one week before the class.
In case of bad weather, the classes may be rescheduled.
Attendees are also asked to let the staff know at registration if any special accommodations are needed.
Attendees are required to purchase a manual (M87) for $12 unless they bring a 2007 copy of the manual with them.
