Do you know Wally Purevich? Chances are good that even if you don’t know his name, you still know him.
Since 1999, Purevich has been the older gentleman working the front end of the store at the Harrisonville Price Chopper, bagging, helping customers carry out and bringing in carts. Many of his co-workers note the actions of the 82-year-old man who works rain or shine, cold or hot, could be a lesson for many younger people in the workforce.
Ask about him to customers or co-workers, and comments about his friendliness and helpfulness will spring out.
“He carried my groceries to my car when I was pregnant.” “He’s so full of life and good cheer all the time.” “He taught me to drive.” “He’s an asset to our community.”
Before coming to Price Chopper, Purevich had worked at the General Motors Assembly plant. He lives in Creighton with his wife, Joan, and works four hours a day, four days a week.
His joy and attitude gained the attention of some local shoppers, and on Dec. 21, while the store was humming with holiday shoppers, he was presented balloons, a certificate of appreciation and a $50 gift card from Price Chopper, Crown Care Center and Serenity Care Hospice.
His certificate read: “Your positive presence and upbeat demeanor have spread joy to so many in this community. Your work ethic and friendly attitude are noticed by everyone you encounter. The world is a better place because of you.”
