Martin Blair Christiansen

Martin Blair Christiansen, 69, East Lynne, died Nov. 17 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. Memorial services were Nov. 27 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Martin was born Jan. 24, 1949, in Elmo, the son of Frank L. and Doris Marie (Kirkland) Christiansen. He was a graduate of West Nodaway Burlington Junction High School.
Martin was a United States Navy veteran. Martin married Lisa Ann Holden Sept. 1, 1984, in Harrisonville. He had worked for Old Mill for 34 years before retiring. He had lived in Harrisonville before moving to East Lynne.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tammy Christiansen; and a grandchild, Jase.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Christiansen, of the home; a son, Jason Christiansen, Belton; three daughters, Sheralyn Morris, Belton, Kylie Chamberlain, East Lynne, and Jennifer Gulley, Pleasant Hill; a brother, Joe Christiansen, College Springs, Iowa; a sister, Linda Sunderman, Clarinda, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

Larry Francis Eason
Sept. 28, 1942 – Nov. 15, 2018
Larry Francis Eason, 76, Drexel, died Nov. 15 at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehab Center in Pleasant Hill, after a battle with COPD and heart disease.
A masonic service, under the auspices of the Grand River Masonic Lodge No. 276, was Nov. 19 and the funeral service followed. Burial was in the Freeman Cemetery, Freeman.
Larry was born in El Dorado Springs Sept. 28, 1942, one of eight children of Francis and Myrtle (Lee) Eason. Larry grew up in El Dorado Springs and was a 1960 graduate of El Dorado Springs High School.
May 26, 1961, Larry married Gwendolyn Beisley in Kansas City and they celebrated 57 years of marriage this year.
Larry was a press operator for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City for 46 years before his retirement in 2007. They lived in Kansas City until 1972 when they moved to a small farm in Freeman.
Larry was a member of Grand River Masonic Lodge No. 276 in Freeman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening until bad health prevented that. He especially enjoyed time with his granddaughters.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Burl and Corene Beisley; his brother-in-law, Herbert Beisley; his brothers, W.D. Eason, Wendell Eason and Gary Eason; a sister, Shirley Fairchild and her husband, Claude.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn; three sons, Rick (Joyce) Eason, Belton, Randy (Julie) Eason, Harrisonville, and Ronnie (Jodi) Eason, Oak Grove; two brothers, Roger (Joy) Eason, Harwood, and Loren (Sue) Eason, Sheldon; a sister, Brenda Widner, Springfield; sisters-in-law, Judy Eason, El Dorado Springs, and Gail Eason, Hume; seven granddaughters, Rikki (Eric) Rouse, Danielle (Justin) Wenger, Taylor (Matt) Eason, Rachel (Chris) Turner, Brooke, Emily and Autumn Eason; and four great-grandchildren, Lexi, Carlynn, Ellie and Millie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kindred Hospice or the Pulmonary Rehab Department at Cass Regional Medical Center.

Clarence Emery Gabriel
Jan. 14, 1931 – Nov. 18, 2018
Clarence Emery Gabriel, Harrisonville, was born Jan. 14, 1931, in California, Missouri, the son of Samuel Emery and Bessie (Oesterly) Gabriel. He departed this life Nov. 18 at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Aug. 12, 1966, Clarence was united in marriage to Betty Gail Shadwick in Vinita, Oklahoma.
Clarence was a four-year veteran of the United States Air Force. He moved to the area in 1956 and went to work at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Grandview, until he retired in 1986. Encouraged by his work on planes, he went on to acquire his pilots license and owned several planes over the years.
Clarence also enjoyed working on old cars and trucks fixing them up and showing some in car shows where he won several trophies. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with Betty and they joined the Gold Wing Club and traveled with the club for several years. They also enjoyed traveling in their RV, bus trips and cruises.
Clarence loved animals and had several over the years including cats; German Shepherds; and Longhorns, of which he had four, and liked to show people he could hand feed them french fries and slices of bread. His last pet was his horse, Smokey, which he trained and doted over. He and Betty were members of several Baptist churches in the area and made friends with many people.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Goldie Gabriel and Ida Gabriel Fulks.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Gabriel, of the home; children, Shirley Shewmaker of Raintree Lake, Lee’s Summit, and Jim Gabriel and wife, Barbara, Harrisonville; two grandchildren, Jeremy Shewmaker and wife, Amy, Greenwood, and Justin Shewmaker and wife, Lindsey, Leawood, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Austin and Levi Shewmaker, Greenwood, and Felix Shewmaker, Leawood; a brother Willis Gabriel, Boliver; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were Nov. 21 at the California City Cemetery, California.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ministerial Alliance of Harrisonville.

Patricia Ann Goddard

Patricia Ann Goddard, 79, Harrisonville, died Nov. 19 at Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore. Memorial services were Nov. 24 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Patricia was born March 17, 1939, in Freeman the daughter of Bert Morris and Mary Ruth (Spencer) Rinker, Sr. She grew up in Freeman and was a 1957 graduate of Cass-Midway High School.
Patricia married Norman Goddard May 31, 1957, in Harrisonville. She had lived in Grandview before moving back to Harrisonville. She owned Pat’s Ceramics in Harrisonville.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Norman Goddard, Harrisonville; two daughters, Rhonda Schulz (Ken), West Fork, Arkansas, and Teresa Sanchez (Gaulle), Belton; a brother, B.M. Rinker, Harrisonville; a sister, Marcia Potts, Englewood, Florida; three grandchildren, Erick and Derick Peterson and Megan Sanchez; and two great-grandchildren.

Deanna S. Schuster

Deanna S. Schuster, 78, Harrisonville, passed away Nov. 19 at St. Luke’s East Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1940, at home on the kitchen table in Independence. Her parents were Jesse W. and Betty S. (Huntsucker) Robertson.
She was raised and educated in Independence graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1958. Deanna married Larry E. Schuster, Jan. 3, 1959, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Independence. They had three children and moved to Harrisonville in 1969.
She was employed by Sears & Roebuck at Kansas City. Later, she was employed by the school districts of Harrisonville and East Lynne. She was a housewife and mother to her three children and many others.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Jesse Robertson; and a daughter-in-law, Kristy Schuster.
Deanna is survived by her husband, Larry; sons, Ricky Eugene Schuster and Randy Dean (Karen) Schuster; a daughter, Betty Leann (Robert T.) Schumacher; grandchildren, Michael (Trista) Schuster, Jeffrey (Amanda) Schuster, Leland Schuster, Cassandra (Matt) Phillips, Shaun Schuster, Lane Bailey, Hunter Bailey, Jason Schumacher; stepgrandchildren, Adam Peterman, Shane Peterman and Hanna (Derek) Haase; and great-grandchildren, Kenedy Schuster, Reagan Schuster, Madison Schuster, Abbi Schuster, Brody Schuster, Ella Phillips.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at the First Baptist Church of Harrisonville, 504 W. Wall Street.
Beverly Jeanne Tinsley

Beverly Jeanne Tinsley, 88, Harrisonville, died Nov. 22, 2018 at K.U. Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services were Nov. 26 at the First Christian Church, Harrisonville, with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
Beverly was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Nevada, the daughter of Clovis and Goldie (Milligan) Etter. She grew up in Nevada and was a 1948 graduate of Nevada High School. Beverly had worked for Southwestern Bell in Nevada for 11 years. She married Donald Oliver Tinsley Feb. 14, 1959. They moved to Harrisonville in 1965.
Beverly was a beloved aunt and friend to all who met her. Most of her nieces and nephews called her Aunt Bebber. She found joy in cooking for family and friends. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, enjoying hosting dinner for more than 50 years. She entered eternal life on Thanksgiving.
Beverly was an active member of the First Christian Church in Harrisonville and had been the bereavement dinner coordinator for many years. She also was an excellent cook and had a business making cakes for many years.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don, Jan. 13, 1996, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Sanders and husband, Mark, Minden, Nevada, and Cheryl Tinsley, Independence; two granddaughters, Sarah Ness and husband, Elliott, and Miriam Marquez and husband, Brennan; a very close niece, Melody Schaefer and numerous other nieces and nephews.

James Nelson Totten

James “Jim” Nelson Totten, 73, Peculiar, died Nov. 13 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Memorial services were Nov. 19 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Jim was born Aug. 15, 1945, in Kansas City the son of Marion L. and Thelma (Chandler) Totten. He was a 1964 graduate of SE High School. He had lived in the Kansas City area most of his life. He was a United States Air Force veteran.
Jim married Shelia Coots May 29, 1965, in Kansas City. He owned a commercial cleaning service, Executive Maintenance, in Kansas City. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also a former Cub Scout leader.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shelia Totten, of the home; two sons, James N. Totten, Jr., (Nicole), Peculiar, and Michael Kevin Totten (Veronica), Colorado; three brothers, Darryl Totten, Shawnee, Kansas, Dale Totten, Basehor, Kansas, and Bryan Totten, Kansas City; a sister, Joan Janes, Overland Park, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Bailey, Jesse, Elias, Danielle, Hannah, Niko, Adian, Kolt and Kash; and a great-granddaughter, Carrie.
