Learn to code

Girls in grades six through 12 are invited to attend these Girls Who Code sessions that are designed to inspire, educate and equip girls with computing skills to pursue 21st century  opportunities.

The sessions will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 11 in the computer lab at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

Join the Minecraft Club

The Minecraft Club for ages 10 to 14 will meet at 5 p.m. Thursdays through November at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

Free community health screenings at Meadowview Estates

Cass Regional Medical Center is providing free health screenings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 2 at the Meadowview Estates, 533 Meadow View Circle, Peculiar.

Receive free blood pressure, blood oxygen and blood sugar screenings and obtain a free total lipid profile, which measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides. For most accurate results, screening participants are asked to fast for at least 12 hours prior to the screening and take medications as usual (with water only). No appointments are necessary.

Town Hall meeting slated

Harrisonville Aldermen Judy Bowman and Judith Reece will wrap up their bimonthly 2018 Town Hall meeting schedule at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 in the HUB at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church.

The speaker will be R-9 Superintendent of Schools, Paul Mensching.

Parents and community members are invited to attend to hear Mensching talk about student achievement, facilities, budget, etc.

All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Refreshments and coffee will be served.

Stop the Bleed presentation slated

Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free Stop the Bleed educational program from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in conference rooms 1 and 2, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within five to 10 minutes. However, with proper training anyone at the scene can act as an immediate responder. The Stop the Bleed program includes instruction and practice on proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use your hands, dressings and tourniquets.

Grief support group to meet

After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone.

Often, friends and family want to help you, but they don’t know how. That’s the reason for GriefShare.

The group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives.

They want to walk with you on the path through grief toward healing and hope for the future.

GriefShare will be meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 7 at the Harrisonville Community Church, 1606 Chapel Dr., Harrisonville.

There is a $15 registration fee, but scholarships are available.

Learn to read on the go

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library invites area residents to learn all they need to know about using e-books at 6 p.m. Nov. 7.

Bring your own device (eReader, tablet, smart phone) and Steve Erichsen, technology coordinator for the Cass County Library System, will help you get set up and ready to download any of our e-books and periodicals for you to enjoy.

Homeschool Mom Hangout planned

The Homeschool Mom Hangout with April Nourse at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library is for seasoned homeschool moms, as well as those who are new. This is an opportunity to relax with other moms, make new friends and share homeschool struggles and concerns.

Breastfeeding support group to meet

Cass Regional Medical Center, the Cass County Health Department and Amy Hall, certified lactation counselor, will host a breastfeeding support group meeting at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of the month (Nov. 8 and 22). The meeting will be held at Cass Regional Medical Center in conference rooms 1 and 2, located directly inside the main entrance of the hospital at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

Veterans Day celebration planned

The community is invited to a Veterans Day celebration from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Beck Event Center, 210 S. Independence St., Harrisonville,

The event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of World War I and honor the Cass County residents that valiantly gave their lives to protect our freedom.

During the event, a new monument will be dedicated. Guest speakers, a presentation by VFW Post 4409 and snacks will be provided.

Diabetes support group to meet

Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free Diabetes Support Group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15, in conference rooms 1, 2 and 3, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

Monthly, Cass Regional’s Diabetes Education team presents topics on current trends in diabetes treatments, lifestyle modification options and topics of interest for those who have diabetes or who have loved ones diagnosed with diabetes. This will be the holiday party for the group.
