Learn to code

Girls in grades six through 12 are invited to attend these Girls Who Code sessions that are designed to inspire, educate and equip girls with computing skills to pursue 21st century  opportunities.

The sessions will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 11 in the computer lab at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

Join the Minecraft Club

The Minecraft Club for ages 10 to 14 will meet at 5 p.m. Thursdays through November at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

Homeschool Mom Hangout planned

The Homeschool Mom Hangout with April Nourse at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library is for seasoned homeschool moms, as well as those who are new, this is an opportunity to relax with other moms, make new friends and share homeschool struggles and concerns.

The topic will be field trips and extracurricular activities. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 816-884-3483.

Grief support group to meet

After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone.

Often, friends and family want to help you, but they don’t know how. That’s the reason for GriefShare.

The group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives.

They want to walk with you on the path through grief toward healing and hope for the future.

GriefShare will be meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 7 at the Harrisonville Community Church, 1606 Chapel Dr., Harrisonville.

There is a $15 registration fee, but scholarships are available.

Children ages 18 to 36 months are invited to a toddler storytime at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

The group meets at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays September through November.

Preschool children are invited to a  preschool storytime at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

Meet and chat with the Superintendent

Harrisonville Schools Superintendent Paul Mensching will host a series of “Listening Post” events during the next few months.

These events are mainly come-and-go and provide community members the opportunity to meet with Mensching, who is in his first year as superintendent of schools. Guests can also provide their suggestions and feedback on the school district.

The next event will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at Brick House Coffee, 201 E. Wall St., Harrisonville.

Annual electronic waste event

The annual electronic waste event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at The Family Center Mill-Walk Mall, Harrisonville.

This is an opportunity to safely dispose of old computers, televisions and other electronics.

Items accepted at no charge are computers, keyboards, printers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, telephones, LCD and plasma TVs and monitors, cassette players, DVD/CD players and VCRs.

Items not accepted include CDs, floppy disks, flash drives and VCR tapes.

*Fees will apply only on CRT computer monitors: $15 each; CRT-based televisions: $20 each; console and rear-projection TVs: $20 each.

*Fees are charged because these products contain lead and other hazardous materials and require special handling.

Fees can be paid with checks and cash only.

Please leave original packaging at home.

This event is provided through a partnership of the Cass County Sustainability Committee, The Family Center and Meredith Recycling, Montrose.

Election equipment to be tested

The Cass County Election Authority will be holding a public testing of the voting election equipment per Missouri State Statute RSMo 115.233.1 at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Historic Cass County Court House, 102 E. Wall St., Harrisonville.

The public is welcome to observe this testing.

Learn to read on the go

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library invites area residents to learn all they need to know about using e-books at 6 p.m. Nov. 7.

Bring your own device (eReader, tablet, smart phone) and Steve Erichsen, technology coordinator for the Cass County Library System, will help you get set up and ready to download any of our e-books and periodicals for you to enjoy.

Veterans Day celebration planned

The community is invited to a Veterans Day celebration from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Beck Event Center, 210 S. Independence St., Harrisonville,

The event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of World War I and honor the Cass County residents that valiantly gave their lives to protect our freedom.

During the event, a new monument will be dedicated. Guest speakers, a presentation by VFW Post 4409 and snacks will be provided.

Teensgiving event planned

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library invites area teens to a Teensgiving event at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 18.

Those attending will gather at the library and head over to Bright Futures to volunteer their time for a great cause.

Winter Market scheduled

Shop a variety of arts, crafts, farm goods, food and more from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the third Saturday of each month, November though April inside the Mill-Walk Mall.

Love the Square town hall meeting planned

Bring your ideas for the Historic Harrisonville Square with you to the Beck Event Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 27.

During this town hall style meeting, you will learn more about the non-profit group, Love the Harrisonville Square and Missouri Main Street Connection’s approach to revitalization.
