Learn to code
Girls in grades six through 12 are invited to attend these Girls Who Code sessions that are designed to inspire, educate and equip girls with computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities.
The sessions will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 11 in the computer lab at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

The Homeschool Mom Hangout with April Nourse at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library is for seasoned homeschool moms, as well as those who are new, this is an opportunity to relax with other moms, make new friends and share homeschool struggles and concerns.

Grief support group to meet
After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone.
Often, friends and family want to help you, but they don’t know how. That’s the reason for GriefShare.
The group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives.
They want to walk with you on the path through grief toward healing and hope for the future.
GriefShare will be meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 7 at the Harrisonville Community Church, 1606 Chapel Dr., Harrisonville.
There is a $15 registration fee, but scholarships are available.

Free public health event scheduled
Project Connect will be available for the first time in Harrisonville for Cass County residents at the United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13. Participating service providers will provide health information, social services, health screenings and veterans’ resources.
There will also be free haircuts, photographs, lunch resources not purchasable with food stamps.
The event will offer basic hearing test, behavioral health screening, birth certificate vouchers, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screening.

Walk/run to benefit Children’s Mercy
The Tyr Run Club 5K Walk/Run organized by the Filer Family will raise funds for Children’s Mercy Hospital. The 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Oct. 13 at City Park.
Registration is $35 for adults and $20 for students. Payment can be made at the event or online – http://give.childrensmercy.org/goto/tyrrunclub.
All registration fees go directly to the Cade Filer Endowed Fund for Child Life in Hematology/Oncology thanks to 5K walk/run sponsorship by the Harrisonville Rotary Club.
The Tyr Run Club is a run club for all ages and in addition to the 5K, the club hosts monthly “meets’ at Memorial Stadium.

Citywide cleanup slated
The city of Harrisonville and Municipal Waste Services will have a citywide cleanup from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 13 for Harrisonville residential customers only.
Items can be dropped off at 2606 Rock Haven Rd., one-third mile east of the Commercial Street intersection near Cass Regional Medical Center.
Items that will be accepted include non-freon appliances, metal items, furniture, light construction debris and household trash.

Meet and chat with the Superintendent
Harrisonville Schools Superintendent Paul Mensching will host a series of “Listening Post” events during the next few months.
These events are mainly come-and-go and provide community members the opportunity to meet with Mensching, who is in his first year as superintendent of schools. Guests can also provide their suggestions and feedback on the school district.
The first two events are from 11:15 to 12:15 Oct. 16 at the Cass County Public Library, 400 E. Menchanic St., Harrisonville.
The second event will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at Brick House Coffee, 201 E. Wall St., Harrisonville.

Diabetes support group to meet
Cass Regional Medical Center will have a free Diabetes Support Group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18, in conference rooms 1, 2 and 3, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.
Monthly, Cass Regional’s Diabetes Education team presents topics on current trends in diabetes treatments, lifestyle modification options and topics of interest for those who have diabetes or who have loved ones diagnosed with diabetes.

The annual electronic waste event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 at The Family Center Mill-Walk Mall, Harrisonville.
This is an opportunity to safely dispose of old computers, televisions and other electronics.
Items accepted at no charge are computers, keyboards, printers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, telephones, LCD and plasma TVs and monitors, cassette players, DVD/CD players and VCRs.
Items not accepted include CDs, floppy disks, flash drives and VCR tapes.
*Fees will apply only on CRT computer monitors: $15 each; CRT-based televisions: $20 each; console and rear-projection TVs: $20 each.
*Fees are charged because these products contain lead and other hazardous materials and require special handling.
Fees can be paid with checks and cash only.
Please leave original packaging at home.

The Cass County Election Authority will be holding a public testing of the voting election equipment per Missouri State Statute RSMo 115.233.1 at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Historic Cass County Court House, 102 E. Wall St., Harrisonville.
